Keep up to date with all the player movements in the SSE Airtricity League silly season as the 20 clubs assemble their squads for 2023.

Premier Division

In: Paddy Kirk, Adam McDonnell (both Sligo Rovers), Keith Buckley (Free Agent), James Akintunde (Released from Derry), Dean Williams (Drogheda United)

Out: Jamie Mullins (Brighton & Hove Albion), Conor Levingstone (Free Agent), Tyreke Wilson (Shelbourne), Liam Burt (Shamrock Rovers)

PFAI Transfer Listed: Tadhg Ryan, Gavin O’Brien, Aaron Doran, Conor Levingstone

Re-signed:: James Talbot (Re-Signed until 2024), John O’Sullivan, Kris Twardek, Jordan Flores, Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe, Jordan Doherty, Jonathan Afolabi, Max Murphy, Ethon Varian, James Clarke, James McManus (2025)

Rumours: Strong rumours also link the club with UCD defender Sam Todd. Declan Devine has reportedly been very busy early in the close season so expect plenty of movement in the coming weeks.

Cork City

In: None

Out: Louis Britton (Yeovil Town), Mark McNulty (Retired), Uniss Kargbo (Australia)

PFAI Transfer Listed: Jimmy Corcoran, James Doona, Mark O’Mahony, Dylan McGlade, Matthew Srbely

Re-signed:: Cian Coleman, Cian Murphy, Barry Coffey (2023),

Rumours: The First Division Champions face the daunting task of staying in the division next year. Finally back at the top table of Irish football they will most likely dip into the English market to attract some players although with a fresh signature on manager Colin Healy’s own contract they may be inclined to dip into the squad of title rivals Waterford after the Blues missed out on promotion themselves on Friday night.

Derry City

In: Colm Whelan (UCD)

Out: Danny Lafferty (Sligo Rovers), James Akintunde (Released), Matty Smith (Loan Deal made Permanent to Shelbourne)

PFAI Transfer Listed: None

Re-signed:: Joe Thompson, Sadou Diallo, Ciaron Harkin, Cian Kavanagh, Patrick McEleney (2024), Mark Connolly (2024), Cameron Dummigan (2024), Will Patching (2024), Cameron McJannet (2024), Brian Maher (2024), Brandon Kavanagh (2024), Ryan Graydon (2024), Daithi McCallion (2024), Liam Mullan (2024), Jordan McEneff (2024), Michael Duffy (2025), Jamie McGonigle (2025), Ronan Boyce (2025).

Rumours: Fresh from their FAI Cup success the Candystripes aren’t anticipating many new arrivals, however the tenuous link of re-signing their former player and club legend James McClean has been circulating for some time. It’s unlikely but a European campaign for his home town club could complete a fantastic story and career for the Republic of Ireland International were he return to the Walled City.

Drogheda United

In: None

Out: Chris Lyons (Bray Wanderers), Andrew Quinn (Shelbourne), Dean Williams (Bohemians)

PFAI Transfer Listed: Colin McCabe, Lee Steacy, Dylan Grimes, Darragh Noone, Dane Massey

Re-signed:: Dayle Rooney, Evan Weir, Emre Topcu (2024), Adam Foley, Luke Heeney, Ryan Brennan (2023)

Rumours: It’s been a disappointing season for the Boynesiders although they will have been happy to be comfortably away from the relegation zone. Very little business done for next season so far, but rumours of fresh investment in the club are circulating and could have an serious impact on recruitment in the coming weeks.

In: None

Out: David McMillan (Free Agent), Lewis Macari (Returns to Stoke City after loan ended), Steven Bradley and Runar Hauge (Returns to Hibernian after loan ended)

PFAI Transfer Listed: Mark Byrne, Peter Cherrie

Re-signed:: Nathan Shepard, Pat Hoban, Andy Boyle (2024), Alfie Lewis, Robbie McCourt, Paul Doyle, Daniel Kelly, Ryan O’Kane, Darragh Leahy (2024), John Martin, Greg Sloggett, Peter Cherrie, Keith Ward

Rumours: A much more settled aura around Dundalk this season as they secured a return to European football with a solid league campaign, Stephen O’Donnell has identified some targets including UCD pair Dylan Duffy and Ben McCormack who debuted at St. Pat’s under O’Donnell. Caffrey is expected to sign elsewhere however and Duffy is still on a scholarship in Belfield and may elect to finish his studies before moving on. (Updated: 26th Nov ’22 @ 1pm)

Shamrock Rovers

In: Liam Burt (Bohemians)

Out: Andy Lyons (Blackpool), Adam Wells (Released after his loan at Wexford FC ends), Viktor Serdeniuk, Chris McCann (Both Contract Expired)

PFAI Transfer Listed: Barry Cotter

Re-signed:: Ronan Finn, Pico Lopes, Graham Burke, Sean Kavanagh, Rory Gaffney, Sean Gannon, Jack Byrne, Leon Pohls, Gary O’Neill, Lee Grace, Dylan Watts, Simon Power, Neil Farrugia, Justin Ferizaj, Richie Towell (2024), Sean Hoare (2024), Daniel Cleary (2024), Alan Mannus, Lee Grace, Sean Kavanagh, Roberto Lopes, Gary O’Neill, Darragh Nugent, Kieran Cruise, Simon Power, Aaron Greene (2023)

Rumours: A healthy bonus from the sale of Gavin Bazunu from Manchester City to Southampton along with the financial windfall of Europa Conference League qualification will give Stephen Bradley a war chest to recruit players this close season should he feel the need to do so. Aidomo Emakhu is rumoured to be England bound with an agreed move to Millwall apparently the destination, but he is under contract for one more year in Tallaght Stadium, with no official announcement yet on his future

Bradley has already indicated that Rover’s won’t be meeting ‘crazy requests‘ to strengthen their squad while the chasing pack, led by Derry and Dundalk are snapping at the heels of the three in a row Premier Division champions.

In: Conor Kearns (Galway United), Tyreke Wilson (Bohemians), Kyle Robinson (St Patricks Athletic), Andrew Quinn (Drogheda United), Evan Caffrey (UCD), Matty Smith (Loan Deal made Permanent from Derry)

Out: Brendan Clarke (Galway United), Daniel Carr, Daniel Hawkins, Aaron O’Driscoll, Josh Giurgi. (Released after contracts expired).

PFAI Transfer Listed: Adam Thomas, Sean McSweeney

Re-signed:: Shane Griffin, JJ Lunney, Matty Smith, Sean Boyd, Conor Kane, Kameron Ledwidge, JR Wilson, Shane Farrell, Brian McManus, Gavin Molloy, Jack Moylan, Jad Hakiki (2024), Luke Byrne, Mark Coyle, Scott Van Der Sluis (2023).

Rumours: After a disappointing end to the season missing out on a chance of Europa Conference League Football as Derry destroyed them in the Cup Final. The carrot of a European adventure would have been the final artillery of Damian Duff’s recruitment arsenal but the Premier League winner is a big enough name to attract some talent from the league, the UK and further afield to strengthen his squad.

Rumours of incoming investment from Sport Republic, the London based American investment firm who also own Southampton FC, may give the Tolka Park outfit a real benefit in the search for the next hidden gem. New faces will be needed if they want to challenge for a European place.

Sligo Rovers

In: Johan Brannefalk (Norrby, Sweden), Danny Lafferty (Derry City), Lukas Browning (Dalkurd, Sweden)

Out: Paddy Kirk, Adam McDonnell (Both Bohemians), Shane Blaney (Motherwell), Seamus Keogh & Lewis Banks, Robbie Burton (Released)

PFAI Transfer Listed: Cameron Evans

Under Contract: Fabrice Hartmann (Jun 2023), Garry Buckley, Karl O’Sullivan, Niall Morahan, Mark Byrne, Frank Liivak, Aidan Keena, Max Mata, Cillian Heaney, Luke McNicholas, Conor Walsh, Éanna Clancy, Kailin Barlow,

Re-Signed: Greg Bolger (Player / Coach), David Cawley.

Rumours: Sligo are always likely to pull a rabbit from a hat in any transfer window and the arrival of Swede Brannefalk and Fabrice Hartmann who will be eligible to play in the new year are perfect examples of that. The development of young, local talent has proven successful both on the pitch and for their bottom line with McGinty, Mahon and Kenny all moving to the UK in the last twelve months netting reportedly in excess of €400k.

St. Patrick’s Athletic

In: Harry Brockbank (Re-Signed), Tommy Lonergan (UCD)

Out: Ian Bermingham (Retired), Adam O’Reilly (Preston North End – end of loan), Kyle Robinson (Shelbourne)

PFAI Transfer Listed: Ben Curtis, Ross Fay

Re-signed:: Danny Rogers, Serge Atakayi, Mark Doyle, Tom Grivosti, Sam Curtis, Eoin Doyle (2024), Paddy Barrett (2024), Chris Forrester (2024), Joe Redmond (2024), Jamie Lennon (2024), David Odumosu.

Rumours: While most of their key players are under contract for next season, Sam Curtis and Joe Redmond in particular have attracted suitors from across Europe. Derry’s FAI Cup victory has granted 4th place St. Pat’s an European footballing lifeline next season as they return to the Conference League for the second consecutive season. This should allow Tim Clancy to retain most of the existing squad and a healthy carrot to tempt any targets to Richmond Park.

In: None

Out: Evan Caffrey (Shelbourne), Tommy Lonergan (St. Patricks Athletic), Colm Whelan (Derry City)

PFAI Transfer Listed: Evan Osam, Alex Nolan

Re-signed: Dara Keane (2023)

Rumours: Both Colm Whelan and Dylan Duffy are targets for League One side Lincoln City, Whelan is also strongly linked with a move to Derry City, while Sam Todd is on the radar of Bohs, but that might not happen until next summer if a deal is arranged.

Their player development structure will always ensure a fresh batch of talent coming into the squad each summer as they say goodbye to their graduating class. Once again survival in the Premier Division will be seen as a resounding success for Andy Myler and the Students.

Kerry FC

In: None

Out: No One!

Rumours: Kerry FC have received their 2023 First Division license and can now start building towards the future. They will be looking at mainly local amateur players to fill their squad, with strong underage squads there will be a local feel to their initial squad, with the link between them and their Boston owners we could also see an American twist to their team.
