Former Everton and Republic of Ireland midfielder Kevin Sheedy takes charge of ‘the Blues’ for the coming season, with former Luton Town and Hartlepool United boss Mike Newell as his assistant.
Waterford missed out on a Europa League qualifying place last season by just a league point, after finishing in fifth spot in the top-flight, leaping one place from the previous year. That top-flight status was gained after picking up First Division silverware in 2017 just a year after changing their name from Waterford United.
Indeed this reformation cost them a Europa League place in 2018, after finishing 4th in the Premier Division, after UEFA ruled they had not passed the ‘three-year-rule’ as a club.

As usual at this time of year SSE Airtricity League clubs continue to recruit players ahead of the new season and clubs in both divisions have been busy tying down their current players while looking to strengthen their squads for 2022.
