Match Report
Success Edogun netted twice late in the second half as Treaty United came from 2-0 down to rescue a point in their Munster Derby encounter with Waterford at the Markets Field. A game that could be described as the tale of the Tortoise and the Hare, Waterford were two goals to the good ten minutes in, only to almost take the foot of the gas, allowing Treaty to come back. Having had numerous chances Edougun proved the hero with two late strikes. Christie Pattinson had put the visitors ahead in bizarre circumstances in the second minute, before Conor Parsons dispatched a spot kick. Treaty laid siege to their goal and Parsons had the chance to make it three in the 70th minute only for his spot kick to be saved by Treaty shot stopper Corey Chambers. A valuable point for Tommy Barret’s side four points behind Wexford in the race for promotion, they now travel to Cobh on Friday hoping to stretch their unbeaten run to four games. Treaty attacked with intent from the first whistle, the counter however from the Blues down the left wing was electric, Conor Parsons and Roland Idowu linking up well to create a chance, in an attempt to clear their lines, the ball inadvertently went off the ball of of Christie Pattisson and looped over Corey Chambers for the lead. Success Edogun raced down the wing hoping to create a spark to get his side level, Waterford showed their composure to remain solid in dealing with the danger. Marc Ludden struck a free kick off the wall, the hosts looked to be coming into the tie. Parsons down the left wing looked sharp and quick, tormenting Robbie Lynch, cutting into the area from the left channel, he was upended by the youngster adapting to playing as a right back. Parsons stepped up and despite Chambers guessing correctly diving to his left, the effort rippled the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Following the goal, Treaty were the side doing the most when it came to attack, forcing the Waterford rear-guard to deal with numerous corners and throw-ins, Darren Nwankwo looking a danger in the area but was unable to convert chances. Sam Perry blocked down his first with an excellent piece of defending, before Sam Sargent, the busier of the two netminders, gathered and sent the ball long hoping the pace of Serge Atakayi would catch Treaty napping for a third, Dean O'Shea however back to clear the danger. On the half hour mark, Ludden played in the ever present Dean George behind the defence with a quickly taken free-kick, Waterford’s experience at the back was holding firm, Giles Phillips showed that with a great block minutes later to keep Treaty at bay. It was all Treaty for the remainder of the half as they put the Blues under pressure, O’Shea found George with an excellent pass to force a corner, hat came to nothing, however 42 minutes in another Ludden corner was cleared to the edge of the area, Stephen Christopher struck a shot on the volley that Sargent needed to get a strong hand on to tip out for a corner. That was their best chance of the half to put the ball in the net, going into the break, despite being behind, Treaty looked the better of the teams as Waterford looked to have stepped off the gas a little. The opening to the second half promised to be strong following the end of the first half, however chances were few and far between. Lee Devit tried a long range shot that went wide of the mark, while Edogun again raced down the wing looking to get a shot on goal, Phillips again getting an important block to prevent an effort. Waterford had the chance to wrap up the game 20 minutes from time as Parsons again went down inside the area, looking to net his second of the contest he stepped up but this time Chambers saved. Minutes later Treaty pulled one back, Edogun using his pace to race onto a long over the top ball, lobbing Sargent to halve the deficit going into the final quarter of an hour of play. Was the comeback on?, the answer came four minutes later, Edogun with a sensational strike nestling in the top corner of the Waterford net levelling matters, a ridiculous goal, no more than they deserved.Edgoun Makes It A Successful Night For Treaty United
