Patterson powers Waterford win
Waterford managed to put a stop on Bohemians winning run, as their extended their own to five; with the home-debutant Phoenix Patterson’s lone-goal confirming a 1-0 victory at the Regional Sports Centre.
The Blues came on with the right ideas way far from intimidated by Bohs, as they fully dominated matters with an enthusiastic one-touch football and creating plenty of chances to set a check-mate on the show even before break.
The boys from the capital forgot to change the chip to Premier Division duties, visited the Blues with on eye on the Europa Conference League second-leg against PAOK, and ended up swallowed by Marc Bircham’s group.

A James Finnerty’s deflection nearly ended up at the back of Talbot’s net, just moments after Waterford indeed change the score.
Not surprisingly, Talbot got beaten near the break with a scrambling-ball resting inside his goal, with Phoenix Ferguson getting the final touch.
Keith Long’s side returned aggressively from the changing room chasing a quick game-changer, but the sparkles in their game didn’t make the travel south. All their efforts brought close to Murphy’s goal were solidly dealt by the navy-blue outfit, who came the closest to make the score move for the second time.
A Patterson’s brilliant-through ball put Junior face-to-face with Talbot, as the goalkeeper denied it with two superb interventions.
The Gypsies’ web got tightened upfront looking for a late equaliser; Rory Feely brought a close-range shot from inside the six-yard box, but Murphy held all three points to crown a brilliant performance overall for Waterford.
