Treaty And Cork City Play Out Munster Derby Stalemate
The first Munster derby of the year ended in a score draw as Treaty Utd came from behind to claim a point over their rivals Cork City.
City took the lead four minutes from the break when Laura Shine found the back of the net. They had a chance to double their advantage in the 65th minute but were flagged for offside.
Seconds later and Treaty drew level through Kiara Kilbey. City keeper Hannah Walsh pulled off some fantastic saves. While Anne-Marie Ulliac denied City sub Lauren Singleton in the 86th minute.
It was a fairly even contest for the opening 30 minutes. Treaty then began to get on top. Kilbey brought an excellent save out of City netminder Walsh in the 33rd minute.
In the 38th minute Treaty had the ball in the back of the net but Kilbey’s effort was ruled out for offside. Three minutes later and somewhat against the run of play City broke the deadlock. Aoibhinn Donnelly put a fine cross into the box and it was finished to the net by Shine. It was City’s first goal of the season.
City dominated the early exchanges of the second half; passing the ball around with ease and playing some good football. In the 65th minute Eva Managan played the ball to Donnelly, her shot came off the crossbar but the flag went up for offside.
From the kick-out JJ Reynaud picked up possession and played the ball over the top for Kilbey to pick up and race through before firing to the net.
In the 72nd minute Kilbey brought a superb save out of Walsh. The ball looked like it was going in but Walsh stretched to get a vital touch on it to put it out for a corner.
Lauren Singleton was only on the pitch seconds when she brought a great save out of Treaty keeper Ulliac in the 86th minute.
Both sides couldn’t get a crucial second goal and so the game finished honours even. The result was City’s first point of the season and moved them off the bottom of the table.
