Match Report
Treaty trouble Cork
Treaty United came away with a hard earned 3-2 win over Cork City at Turner’s Cross tonight.
Two penalties from Kieran Hanlon and a deflected strike from Joe Collins were enough to give Tommy Barrett’s side the edge over the home team.
Despite putting two goals past Treaty, Cork could not get anything from the game.
It was Cork who started off the brighter of the two teams with an abundance in the opening fifteen minutes. However, they failed to hit the target.
Treaty were awarded a penalty on the 17th minute after Jonas Hakkinen seemed to have handled the ball.
It was the away side who drew first blood after Kieran Hanlon converted the penalty by placing it down the middle of the goal past a diving Mark McNulty in the Cork net.
The goal came completely against the run of play considering the amount of chances that the home side had.
Cork were level less than seven minutes later as the ball broke to Beinoen O’Brien Whitmarsh in the box and the striker showed his composure to finish past Treaty ‘keeper Shane Cusack.
Cork’s dominance continued with plenty of efforts on goal and they finally got their second in added time of the first half through club top scorer this season, Cian Murphy.
This was a great position for Cork to be in heading into half-time considering that they were a goal down.
However, their lead did not last long as Treaty were awarded another penalty for handball just a minute into the second period. Gordon Walker was judged to have blocked a shot with his hand.
It was Kieran Hanlon who stepped up again and placed the ball to McNulty’s right this time.
Again, it was Cork who had the majority of the chances but they were struggling to trouble Cusack.
They were left to rue their missed opportunities when Joe Collins latched onto with plenty of space in midfield. The substitute let fly from distance and his shot took a wicked deflection leaving McNulty with no chance and giving the away side the win.
Tommy Barrett will be delighted that his side could bounce back from last week’s defeat to Galway United.
Colin Healy on the other hand will be furious with the amount of wasted chances from his team and will be baffled as to how they did not score more goals.
