Record crowd as Cork end season on a high
Late goals from Sarah McKevitt and Laura Shine saw Cork City end their season with a 3-1 win over Munster rivals Treaty Utd at Turner’s Cross.
Played in front of a WNL record attendance of 1,007 supporters, City took the lead on 12 minutes; McKevitt was taken down in the box and Becky Cassin made no mistake with her spot-kick.
The visitors were back on level terms on 36 minutes when Oliva Gibson’s cross met the head of Jenna Slattery and she made no mistake with a diving effort.
City bossed much of the second half and hit the crossbar on 65 minutes. They regained the lead on 75 minutes through McKevitt and three minutes from normal time Laura Shine sealed the win.
With both sides at the wrong end of the table pride was at the stake this afternoon. City started well and Treaty keeper Michaela Mitchell was called into action a number of times in the opening 10 minutes.
The deadlock was broken in the 12th minute when Cassin’s powerful penalty beat the Treaty netminder. Treaty worked hard to try and get back into the game and drew level on 36 minutes through Slattery’s diving header.
The home side dominated most of the second half and created several chances. They were back in front on 75 minutes through the impressive McKevitt.
Minutes from time Shine made it 3-1 as City end the season with a second win over Treaty and finish in 8th place in the table.

The 2k mark hasn't been hit but it looks like about 1,000 which would be a record. We'll announce the official attendance when we get it.
It was great to see so much support behind City's 'Drive for 2K'.
This is the third meeting between these two sides in the league this season. Treaty won the last time they were at the Cross while City defeated the Limerick side at Jackman Park in their last meeting.
This is City's final game of the season, while Treaty are out next weekend. Although both sides are at the wrong end of the table it is a Munster Derby where bragging rights are important.
Welcome to Final Whistle's coverage of Cork City and Treaty Utd. Deniese O'Flaherty here. Cork City have a wonderful initiative at the moment. They hope to have a record WNL attendance at today's game and all proceeds go to Breast Cancer Ireland.
