Treaty United upset league leader Cork on Leeside

Treaty United beat Cork City 2-0 at Turner's Cross this evening to hand the league-leaders their second defeat of the season in the League of Ireland First Division.

Treaty took the lead in the tenth minute when Ben O'Riordan's piledriver from outside the box hit the top-corner of the City goal.

The visitors landed another blow shortly after half-time when Marc Ludden put away a penalty after Jonas Hakkinen was deemed to have fouled Sean Guerins in the box.
Treaty's organisation served to keep out the hosts for the remainder to deliver a major blow to Cork's promotion campaign.

Treaty's organisation served to keep out the hosts for the remainder to deliver a blow to Cork's promotion campaign.
The hosts had the first chance of the game under two minutes when Matt Healy flicked on a Darragh Crowley cross and the ball slide across the goal mouth but none of the three City attackers could poke it in.
Treaty grew into the game after the home side's early pressure and had a big chance of their own go abegging on 6 minutes when Success Edogun's powerful effort from inside the box was saved by the leaping David Harrington.

The visitors would take the lead soon after though, when defender Ben O'Riordan strode forward and had a pop from well outside the 18-yard box.

It took a while for Cork to regain their composure after conceding but they could have gone level on 15 minutes when Ruairi Keating found himself through on goal but failed to get the ball from out of his feet.
The sweltering conditions at Turners Cross saw an initial water-break called on 22 minutes, allowing City to regroup and take the game to the away side.

The visitors held out however and remained a goal ahead at the break.

The away side controlled play after the restart and won a penalty after a period of sustained pressure. Treaty captain Ludden stepped up to extend his side's lead to two goals in front of a stunned Turner's Cross.

A triple substitution for the hosts followed but Cork would struggle to create many substantial scoring opportunities for the rest of the fixture as a well organised Treaty defence left them frustrated.
Despite late pressure Treaty would hold out to take all three points leaving Cork to count themselves lucky that title rivals Galway also fell to a defeat this evening.
