Match Report

Treaty bag famous win over Cork

It was quality of possession and not quantity of possession that won the day at Markets Field this evening as Treaty United came out 2-1 victors, against a Cork City side that really has not taken to life in the First Division.

A Matt Keane tap-in, in the 78th minute, separated the sides. This came after Anthony O’Donnell’s first half goal was cancelled out by a Cian Coleman header.

Cork’s got the opening chance in this game as Dylan McGlade cut inside towards the edge of the box, and rifled a shot towards the top corner. Tadhg Ryan pulled off an acrobatic stop to deny the tricky City winger.

After a prolonged period sat within their own half, Treaty ventured forward with a string of corners. It was one of these that would allow them to open the scoring.

A training ground routine came off, as Clyde O’Connell peeled off to the back post. His header was straight back across goal to Ant O’Donnell, who couldn’t miss from two yards out.

Cork pushed back with some slow passing in the Treaty half, but it seemed as if the home side were going to hold firm. However, an in swinging, looped cross from Dylan McGlade was met by the head of Cian Coleman. He glanced the ball past the outstretched Ryan to bring the scores back to level before half-time.

United dominated the first 15 minutes after the restart, as Tommy Barrett’s words from the break rang in their ears.

This dominance nearly bore fruit as Ed McCarthy chipped a free kick into the area from the left. Sean Guerins header came off the upright, and Cork eventually breathed a sigh of relief as they scrambled the ball away.

It was time for the Rebels to play copy-cat as Whitmarsh hit the bar also. The visitors were too slow and ponderous on the ball though; and would be punished before the 90 was up. A Marc Ludden throw-in wasn’t cleared, and the ball somehow found itself at the feet of Matt Keane for yet another Treaty tap-in.

It ended at 2-1 as the home side killed the game effectively. Four losses in a row doesn’t look good for Colin Healy.

On the other hand, Treaty are putting together an excellent start to the season, and remain undefeated.

  • 94'

Cork City had a lot of the ball but were really very poor. One moment of quality from Dylan McGlade created a goal, but most of the time cutting edge was lacking. Something to think about for Colin Healy.

  • 94'

A real team performance from Treaty, they often had to dig in and stay organised. When they got their chances however, they were clinical and deservedly grabbed all three points.

  • 94'

Full time: Treaty United 2 - 1 Cork City

  • 93'

Treaty have killed the game excellently after going in front.

  • 92'

Desperation time for Cork as they throw everyone forward and go route one.

  • 90'

    3 Minutes of added time.

  • 86'

Cian Murphy is on for Kargbo.

  • 87'

Chaos as a poor back pass results in Tadhg Ryan slamming the ball into Cian Murphy, the ball loops up into the air and drops just over the bar. Treaty get away with one.

  • 86'

Cork have reacted by pushing up their defensive line and playing some direct balls. There's not a lot come from it though so far.

  • 82'

Colin Healy will be starting to sweat if the game stays like this. Four losses in a row is not what Cork would have wanted after relegation.

  • 78'

Matt Keane scores! A Marc Ludden throw in isn't dealt with, the ball pings around the box and Matt Keane is well positioned for a simple finish.

  • 77'

Alec Byrne flicks on a Dylan McGlade corner, but there's no one on the end to take a shot at goal.

  • 75'

Clyde O'Connell picks up a yellow card after a clash in the air.

  • 73'

McSweeeney picks up the ball from a throw in, drives inside and shoots, but the shot is straight into the arms of McNulty.

  • 73'

After the positive start to the half from Treaty, Cork have upped their game a little.

  • 71'

Dylan McGlade tries to open up for a shot, but Jack Lynch stays with him and makes a good tackle.

  • 69'

    Cork's Cian Bargary comes on.

  • 69'

Dale Holland leaves the pitch for Cork.

  • 66'

Dylan McGlade floats a ball into the box and Whitmarsh crashes a header off the upright. Big chance!

  • 65'

Matt McKevitt enters the fray for Treaty.

  • 65'

Treaty's Kieran Hanlon leaves the field.

  • 62'

Dylan McGlade is looking dangerous on the left for Cork. Plenty of fancy touches, but not a lot of end product .

  • 60'

It has been a much more lively half so far, compared to the first. Though there's no goals to show for all the action.

  • 57'

Ed McCarthy whips in a free kick, Sean Guerins heads the ball onto the bar! 'Keeper was beaten but the woodwork saves Cork.

  • 54'

Ed McCarthy commits a tactical foul, as Cork look to make a quick break. He is deservedly booked.

  • 51'

Anthony O'Donnell goes down injured, but it doesn't look serious.

  • 50'

Treaty look like a different team early on in this half. A delightful pass from Jack Lynch creates a bit of chaos in the Cork box.

  • 48'

Treaty have started the half brighter. Kargbo clears a header off the line, very lucky.

  • 47'

Kargbo maybe got away with one on the edge of the area? Looked like a foul on Clyde O'Connell, but nothing given.

  • 46'

And we're back underway as Hakkinen punts the ball into the Treaty half.

  • 45'

Seems a fair score at half time. Cork have dominated possession, but Treaty have looked dangerous when they have got forward. Cork need to up the tempo of their play if they want to come out of this with a win. Too often their slow passing has allowed Treaty to sit back in shape and frustrate them.

  • 45'

    Half Time: 1-1

  • 44'

Cork weren't looking like they were going to get the breakthrough, but an accurate ball into the box can change a game, as it has here.

  • 40'

Cork City are level! Cian Coleman heads home after a cross into the box.

  • 39'

Ed McCarthy is through on goal as Holland slips, but it's a tame shot straight at McNulty in the Cork net.

  • 35'

Dylan McGlade tries a fancy free kick, but it dribbles harmlessly out of play. What a waste.

  • 34'

Yellow card for Jack Lynch, as he gives away a foul in a dangerous position.

  • 34'

Cork have had a lot of the ball, but there's been too much safe and simple passing. Treaty got their chance, and took it.

  • 31'

Corner put towards the back post, headed back across the goal and Anthony O'Donnell taps the ball over the line!

  • 30'

McSweeney has a pop after a corner, but his shot deflects wide.

  • 29'

This game needs something to happen, it really hasn't be a good watch so far.

  • 25'

A lot of passing from Cork, but Treaty are compact and making it tough for City to play through them.

  • 20'

Treaty United's first shot. Sean McSweeney picks up the ball in space outside the box, turns and blazes the ball over the bar.

  • 18'

Coleman and Crowley link up on the right for City, but the final cross is easily cleared.

  • 17'

A few forays forward for Treaty, but there's no final ball. A couple of crosses hit the first man.

  • 14'

Lovely control and shot from Dyland McGlade, unleashes a strike headed for the top corner, but Ryan makes a great save.

  • 12'

Bad tackle by Alec Byrne on Walsh near the halfway line, but the referee is lenient and doesn't give a card.

  • 10'

Matt Keane has a chance to put the ball in the box, but there's nobody in there, so Treaty play it backwards until the move dies out.

  • 8'

Not a lot has happened in the opening minutes, City are controlling the possession and the territory. However, not a lot of quality in the final third.

  • 4'

Cork have started to get hold of the ball. A couple of times the centre-halves and Holland have looked to release McGlade down the left.

  • 1'

And we're underway, as a long ball wins Treaty a throw in deep in the Cork half.

  • Cork team news, three changes as Kargbo, Beinon and Holland come in. Bargary is back on the bench which is good news for Colin Healy.

  • Treaty United team news, Anthony O'Donnell is in for Coustrain as Tommy Barrett makes a change.
