Cork break Treaty at Turner’s Cross
Three goals in as many minutes helped Cork claim Munster derby rights once more with a 3-0 victory over Treaty United at Turners Cross.
Cork had at the ball in the net on four minutes through Matt Healy. His joy was short lived however as the goal was ruled out for a foul in the lead up.
It was very uneventful in the intervening period with Treaty doing well to keep the home crowd quiet. Tommy Barrett’s side enjoyed a sustained period of pressure in the second quarter without creating a clear-cut chance.
City were better in the final five minutes and were only kept at bay due to the hands of Treaty goalkeeper Jack Brady.
He first denied Matt Healy from 25 yards out when he managed to tip his long range effort around the post. Moments later Aaron Bolger was denied when his curling shot was palmed away to keep it scoreless at the break.
Cork started the second the half the better side with James Doona causing problems from the left wing. The pick of his play being a cross into Ruairí Keating with the resulting effort going just right and wide.
Keating would have his moment in the 64th minute however as his low drilled shot finally broke the deadlock.
Matt Healy would make it two just moments later with another low effort giving Brady no chance.
The Treaty keeper will be disappointed not to keep out the next goal however which came in the 67th minutes. Substitute Cian Bargery striking the ball through his legs to make it three goals in three minutes.
3-0 is how it finished as Cork stay three clear of Galway at the top of the First Division while Treaty stay fifth.
