Match Report
Sligo Rovers were punished by their ongoing injury crisis as Eanna Clancy and Greg Bolger both limped off with 30 minutes. James Clarke (32) and Declan McDaid (68) were on target for Bohemians as the host ran out deserved winners. A scrappy first half turned in the hosts favour as Rovers lost two players to injury within the first half hour as Clancy limped off after only eight minutes with what seemed to be a recurring hamstring injury, a headache manager John Russell could have done without due to an already stretched defence. Things only got worse for the away side as on 27 minutes Bolger went down holding his ankle after blocking down a Krystian Nowak shot from close distance, the former hoop attempted to continue, however the Bohemians faithful were delighted to see him limp off moments later. I took approximately three minutes for to take advantage of the forced midfield change, James Akintunde released Kris Twardek on a counter from a Kailin Barlow free kick, the former Sligo winger found Clarke in the away sides box, taking the ball down and firing past McNicholas in the Rovers goal despite legitimate calls for handball. Bohs continued to search for a second before half time but away side found some resilience to hold out while having a number of half chance of their own. The Dubliners started the second half as they finished the first, on the front foot, with Akintunde making a nuisance of himself in the box, while former Sligo midfielder McDonnell and Nowak dispelled any of John Russells depleted sides chances. Akintunde, who only returned to the side following injury was only expected to play 60 minutes and that proved true as he was replaced by McDaid just after the hour mark. McDaid wasted no time getting on the scoresheet after only 7 minutes to seal all 3 points for the Bohs on 68. The game petered out with only a few real chances in the final 20 minutes, first Max Mata on 70 and David Cawley on 72 both with glancing headers just wide of the post, whist Twardek and substitute Chris Lotefa in injury time almost made it 3 for the hosts. Next up for Bohemians is a trip to Turners Cross to face Cork city on Monday night with the Clash of the Rovers in Sligo as Tallaght outfit and new league leader travel to the showgrounds.
