Match Report
Bohs win in Sligo thanks to Burt’s goal
Liam Burt’s first half goal was the difference as Bohemians picked up their second win of the season, overcoming Sligo Rovers 1-0 at the Showgrounds.
It was a scrappy opening few minutes with the bumpy pitch evident early on in a game which was postponed on the opening day of the season.
Promise Omochere was the standout player early on and nearly had the visitors ahead in the 13th minute after his spectacular half volley rattled the Sligo crossbar.
Bohs began to assert their dominance from then on and it was Omachere who was involved again in the 26th minute. He made a brilliant 50-yard run, leaving three Sligo defenders in his wake before giving the ball to Liam Burt who beat Ed McGinty at the second time of asking.
Max Mata was the main source of chances for Sligo and he nearly drew them level just before the break after fellow kiwi Nando Pinjaker hit a brilliant 80-yard ball into his feet but Talbot managed to deny him with a great save.
The visitors started the better in the second half and had the ball in the net again on 46 minutes through Conor Levingston, but the goal was ruled out for a handball.
The Bit O’Red had their best chance on the hour mark through Will Fitzgerald who got on the end of a Greg Bolger pass yards out from goal but James Talbot showed his international credentials by coming off his line to deny the home side.
Try as they might, Sligo could not get the equaliser as Keith Long’s side deservedly held on for their second win of the season while Liam Buckley’s outfit suffered their second consecutive home defeat.

Full time at the Showgrounds and Bohs deservedly get the three points with Liam Burt\'s strike the difference between the sides.
Yellow for Buckley for a tackle on Omachere who has been brilliant this evening.
Jordan Doherty on for Ali Coote as Bohs look to run down the clock.
6 minutes of added time at the Showgrounds.
Final sub for Sligo as Robbie McCourt goes off for Shane Blaney.
The game has become very scrappy in the past few minutes as Sligo push for an equaliser, Bohs doing a good job disrupting the game.
Kirk and Keogh on for Sligo instead of Fitzgerald and Morahan.
Worry for Keith Long as Horton goes down, Bohs have already used up their three subs.
Sligo appeal for a penalty but the referee, for the second time this evening, turns away.
Burt and Flores are off for Junior and Dawson Devoy for Bohs.
Yellow for Lewis Banks for a cynical foul. Free to Bohs.
McGinty not to be outdone, gets down brilliant to stop Ali Coote from making it 2-0. Omachere excellent once again in the build up.
Great chance for Sligo, Greg Bolger plays in Will Fitzgerald inside the box but Talbot does brilliantly to come out and deny him by getting down on the ball.
Max Mata with a great chance for Sligo from a free but he's header goes over the bar. Good start to the second half from the home side.
Levingston puts the ball in the Sligo net but it's disallowed for what appeared to be a handball.
Back underway.
Teams back out for the second half.
Half-time at the Showgrounds. A very entertaining game so far with Bohs taking a deserved 1-0 lead at the break. Liam Burt the difference so far.
Sligo have been much better the past few minutes, playing with a lot more urgency. Appeals for a penalty after Gary Buckley goes down but none given. Approaching half-time now.
Pjinkaer with an absoloutely stunning 80 yard pass to Mata who only has the keeper to beat but Talbot makes a great save and Bohs clear the resulting corner.
Another great chance for Bohs from a corner. Jordan Flores puts in a great ball which finds Ciaran Kelly but his header fizzes over the bar. Bohs playing very well here though.
Karl O'Sullivan with a great run down the left flank for Sligo, takes a couple of great touches but his left hand curler goes well wide of the goal. Better from Sligo however.
Bohs in complete control at the moment and look the more likely team to score again. Away support in full voice.
Liam Burt puts Bohs ahead but it is all about Omachere in the build up. He goes on a 50 yard run, leaving three defenders in his wake before giving the ball to Burt who beats McGinty at the second time of asking.
Chance for Sligo from a corner with Talbot coming off his line to clear the cross which falls to captain Greg Bolger but his shot is saved and cleared by the Bohs defence.
Omochere has been excellent so far for the visitors, his effort earlier aside, he is causing a lot of problems for the Sligo defence using his pace and power and has won a couple of free-kicks.
Omochere with a spectacular hit which hits off the Rovers crossbar. Really entertaining start to this game.
Max Murphy on for Bohs as Rory Feeley pulls up with an injury which he appeared to have prior to the game.
Lovely move by Sligo there, Max Mata feeds McCourt who's shot goes out for a corner. Talbot does really well to clear the ball from the resulting cross.
Very scrappy opening here with the pitch looking a bit bumpy. No chances to report yet.
Underway.
Teams out onto the pitch, decent crowd at the Showgrounds with the away fans making themselves heard.
Tonight is the first game between the two sides this season. The Bit O'Red won two of the four games last season while the other two ended up in a Bohs' victory and a draw respectively.
