Smith and Moylan help Shels add to Cork woes
Shelbourne moved up to fourth on goal difference following a 2-1 win against Cork City at Tolka Park this evening.
Matty Smith opened the scoring just after half time when he chopped it back onto his right foot inside the box before rifling the ball into the far corner.
The hosts doubled their advantage when Jack Moylan ran through with just under ten to go and stuck it past Cork keeper Daniel Moynihan.
The visitors did pull one back however when the two substitutes Cian Murphy and Whitmarsh linked up, with the latter running through and firing the ball past Conor Kearns at the near post with three to go.
Cork started the better of the two and could’ve took the lead when Ruairi Keating had a strike well saved by Kearns.
Shels best chance of the first half came through Smith who found himself on the end of a lovely Paddy Barret through ball, but Moynihan saved well.
Following a dominant spell, Cork began to re-grow into the game and ended the first half on top, going close on numerous occasions and should have took the lead, but Kearns again did very well to save two point blank efforts.
In truth, it was a game of few clear cut chances, but Damian Duff’s men won’t mind as they move up to fourth, level on points with St. Pat’s who lost up in Derry this evening.
Shelbourne now move up onto Drogheda away on Monday, whilst Cork remain in Dublin as they travel to Bohs.
