Shelbourne continued their winning ways with a 7-0 demolition of Cork City at Tolka Park this afternoon. 

The hosts dominated proceedings early on with Cork trying to play out from the back despite the oncoming high press. Shels got their first goal on fourteen minutes when Shauna Fox headed in Rachel Graham’s corner to put Shels 1-0 ahead. 

Cork were competitive in the second quarter but received a sucker punch of a goal in the 37^th minute when Noelle Murray from a corner, chipped goalkeeper Abbie McCarthy who was off her line. 

It got even better two minutes later when West Ham bound Jessica Ziu found Jessie Stapleton who put the ball through the legs of McCarthy for Shelbourne’s third goal of the half. 

Stapleton would get her second goal five minutes later when she intercepted a pass just outside Cork’s own 18 yard box before slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner. That goal meaning Shelbourne would go in 4-0 to the good at half-time. 

Shels rang the changes at half-time and it was substitute Gloria Douglas who got their fifth goal just after the interval with another clinical finish from inside the box. 

Alex Kavanagh nearly had a goal of the season contender on the hour mark when she hit a long range effort that beat McCarthy but rattled the Cork crossbar instead of the net. 

It was another sub who got Shelbourne’s sixth goal on 70 minutes when a corner found Gemma Quinn at the edge of the box and smashed the ball into the Cork net. 

Kate O’Dowd added a seventh in injury time to complete an excellent afternoon’s work for the champions who have yet to concede a goal this season. 

For Paul Farrell’s side, they will need to pick themselves up for next week’s game at home to Bohemians while Noel King’s charges are back at Tolka Park to face Sligo Rovers.
