Match Report
Jarvis Furthers Cork’s Relegation Woes
A Will Jarvis goal on the stroke of half time proved to be the difference as Shelbourne overcame Cork City 2-1 at Tolka Park.
Shels' started the better especially through Paddy Barret who had a couple of efforts on goal early on, making City goalkeeper Ollie Byrne spring into action from the get go.
City's first real chance of the game came in the 22nd minute through Malik Djiksteel but his effort was well blocked by the Shels' defence.
Indeed it was the hosts who would take the lead in the 28th minute whne Jack Moyland got on the end of HRRY Wood's cross to make it 1-0.
City to their credit responded in the best possible way and would draw level on 36 minutes when Ruairi Keating converted from the penalty spot to make it 1-1.
The visitors would see history repeat itself however as just like last week, City conceded on the stroke of half time through a devastating counter attack which ended in Will Jarvis slotting home to give Shels's a 2-1 lead at the break.
The visitors started the better in the second half with Keating continuing his duel with Kearns, however the Shels' keeper proved to be equal to his fellow Galway man's efforts in the opening quarter.
Moylan had Shels first chance of the second half in the 66th minute when he jinxed past the City defence before hitting his shot straight at Byrne.
Liam Buckley rang the changes in the last ten minutes as City chased the equaliser. Unfortunately for them they could not create the chance needed as Shels held on for the three points that keeps them in the hunt for European qualification.
