Match Report
10 man Athlone come from 2-0 down to secure point
Athlone Town left it late to earn a draw from two goals down, scoring in the 99th minute to settle a 2-2 draw with Treaty United.
Enda Curran put the visitors 2-0 up with a brace but Isaie Louis scored in the 82nd minute before Noah Van Geenan equalised in the 99th minute
Athlone dominated the first half in terms of chances and arguably should’ve found the net on a number of occasions early on. Jamar Campion Hinds glanced an effort wide whilst Franz Pierrot met the ball at the near post but couldn’t turn his effort goalward from close range.
Campion Hinds came close just before the half hour mark after he twisted and turned in the Treaty box but fired a ferocious effort just wide. Five minutes later Pierrot weaved his way through the Treaty defence on the edge of the area and as he was about to pull the trigger, had the ball nicked off him.
Athlone would come inches away one more time on the brink of the half. Haji Abdikadir met the second ball from the corner he helped win and although he was far out on his weak foot, sent his effort just wide of the far post.
Treaty would take the lead against the run of play in the 52nd minute. Enda Curran was slipped through from out right and slid it by Minogue for the lead. Athlone vehemently protested as it appeared Curran was in an offside position, but the ball took a deflection on route to him. Despite the appeals, the ref sided with Treaty and it was 1-0 to the visitors.
Things went from bad to worse for the hosts a couple of minutes later. Campion caught Lee Devitt late in an honest challenge. He was shown a second yellow and with that, his marching orders.
Curran punished his former side again in the 68th minute. Treaty won a dubious free close in and won a corner. From the corner, the ball fell to the Galway native who slammed it in first time, earning his brace.
Athlone found a lifeline in the 82nd minute. Pierrot attacked space on the right-hand side and lobbed it through to Isaie Louis, who took his time and eventually poked home.
Injury time lasted right up until the 99th minute and gave a dramatic ending. Athlone peppered the Treaty box throughout and right at the end, sent one last long ball forward. It fell to centre half Noah Van Geenan deployed out left who cut inside and via a deflection, saw his shot ebb in. With that goal, a very controversial match met its end.

Goal!!!! Athlone send one last ball forward and it falls to Van Geennan, who finds the net via a deflection. The full time whistle immediately blows. An insane match here.
Athlone send a late cross in but no one meets it.
Six minutes added on.
Athlone are pushing hard for this equaliser.
Goal! Athlone have a lifeline after Pierrot plays Louis through and he pokes his eventual effort in!

Goal! It falls to Curran in the area from the corner and he slams it in! Treaty are on route to their first win of the season here!
Now Treaty have a free close in under very dubious circumstances. The wall sends it behind for a corner. Athlone are still puzzled.
The home crowd are furious with the ref after the gives the ball to Treaty following a drop ball that Athlone had possession of beforehand. That with the no offside call for the Curran goal and Campion Hinds second yellow have made him unpopular here.
Chance! The ball lands to Pierrot in the area and he turns and shoots with the goal at his mercy. His effort is right at Hallahan, who pushes it behind.
Campion Hinds puts in a late challenge on Devitt and gets his second yellow. Athlone dominated the first half, but in the blink of an eye are a goal down and now a man down.
Goal! Enda Curran is slipped through on the right hand side and slips it in! Bit of controversy as Athlone seem adamant it should've been offside.
Curran hits a free just wide.
Back underway.
Half time
Abdikadir drills it into the box and Louis gets a shot off but it's blocked. It then falls to Abdikadir from the corner and his strike is just wide. Two minutes injury time.
Enda Curran is slipped in but the first touch is heavy. Routine for Minogue.
Pierrot nearly pulls off a very good dribble through the Treaty backline but is dispossessed as he's about to pull the trigger.
Campion Hinds twists and turns on the right hand side of the Treaty box. He fires a ferocious effort at goal but it's just wide.
Barry drives forward solo for Treaty's first resemblance of an attack this match. Blazes the eventual effort over.
Good attacking play from Connolly on Louis on the right. They win a corner but Athlone commit a handball and Treaty win a free out.
Athlone are piecing together good attacking play but aren't quite breaking Treaty down. Home side on top so far.
Another good chance for Athlone. Hickey slips it to the near post but Pierrot can't direct his eventual effort goalward. Another chance that should've been taken.
Early chance for Athlone. A cross comes from the right and Campion Hinds meets it, but heads wide. Arguably should've scored.
And we're off.
Teams are out, kick-off is nigh.
For Treaty, four former Athlone players start. Those are Conor Barry, Success Edogun, Andy Spain and Enda Curran, who played in the last Athlone side to get promoted.
Jack Kavanagh is injured and is out for Athlone. Donal Curtin replaces him and comes up from the bench. Adam Lennon is also back from injury and is on the bench.
The teams are now in.
