Adeyemo Caps Off Sensational Comeback Win For De Town

For the second time this weekend Longford Town came from behind to claim a win. This time coming from 2-0 down away to Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

Bray had taken the lead from the penalty spot through Chris Lyons before Dane Massey doubled their advantage. Credit to Town they fought back and were level in the 70th minute with goals from Cristian Magerusan and Beineon O’Brien Whitmarsh.

A brace from Jordan Adeyemo sealed the win for Town who leapfrog Bray into sixth place in the table.

It was a lively opening but neither side created anything to trouble the opposition keeper. In the 12th minute Josh Giurgi hit his free short to Derek Daly but he shot straight at Matt Connor.

Bray got into good positions but didn’t create anything of note. In the 23rd minute they broke the deadlock. Darren Craven’s shot was saved by Jack Brady. Brady punched the loose ball away from Lyons but the player went down in the box and referee Declan Toland awarded a penalty to the home side. Lyons stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick past the Town netminder.

In the 41st minute Town had a great chance to draw level; Kyle O’Connor hit a good ball into Magerusan but his downward header took a bounce and went over the bar.

Bray doubled their advantage in the 48th minute. A free from Craven was floated into the box, Brady made an excellent save but the ball fell nicely to Massey and he fired to the net from a tight angle.

Magerusan had another chance to grab a goal for Town but his header from Dylan Hand’s cross went wide. In the 56th minute Massey cleared Shane Elworthy’s header off the line.

Minutes later Magerusan came close again as Town pressed. They eventually pulled a goal back in the 68th minute when Magerusan dispossessed Connor and finished to the net. Two minutes later Town drew level. This time Magerusan played provider, his header down to O’Brien Whitmarsh who hit a lovely strike to the net.

The drama didn’t end there and in the 81st minute substitute Jordan Adeyemo put Town in front. Elworthy with the through ball into Adeyemo and he made no mistake.

Adeyemo capitalised on a mistake by Connor in stoppage time to grab his second goal and the Town’s fourth.
