Match Report

Bray Remain Unbeaten After Stalemate With Longford

A drab affair played out at the Carlisle Grounds as Bray were held at home by Longford 0-0.

The two best chances of the game came in the first half, both for Bray. First Jake Walker fired a low shot at Brady who saved well.

Just before the half was over, Harry Groome curled a lovely shot from the left-hand side of the box which Brady was once again equal to. He could only parry to Walker who then blazed over. Longford, in truth, barely threatened and the second half, besides yellow cards, had very little to note.

In what was a truly drab affair, Bray kept up their unbeaten start to the season but were held by a resolute Longford side. Both sides were not at the races, but Bray will rue the few big chances that they were able to create.

Bray started the game very well, following recent trends, and had the first real chance of the game as an Oisin Hand mistake resulted in Jake Walker going through on goal. His strong effort was down Jack Brady’s throat who managed to get a strong hand to it. Hand was lucky not to receive a red card a few minutes later when his strong challenge on Joseph Power only produced a yellow.

The game slowed down after this with Longford getting more on the ball. Yellow cards, as has been common throughout the two divisions this season, were aplenty with both sides receiving two each in the first half alone. The only other chance of note came from Harry Groome who, after receiving the ball just on the left hand side of the box, jinked in and out before curling a shot which Brady parried out, Jake Walker was there to follow up but blazed over.

The second half continued in much the same vein and a noteworthy chance was not to be found for either side right up until the dying embers of the game, with Bray having arguably their best of the entire match. Substitute Ben Feeney found himself free down the right-hand side and got a cross in.

It was behind Jake Walker and it bounced up, but he managed an acrobatic effort which Jack Brady was equal to with a superb save to push onto the post. Longford created little and Alex Moody had not much to do except for being involved in Bray’s build up. “De Town” defended well however, holding firm against Bray’s front three.

Bray will play Shamrock Rovers in the Leinster Senior Cup on Monday before travelling to Waterford next Saturday, whereas Longford will host Finn Harps on the same day.

And Massey hits the wall. Full time is called just after and a poor showing from both sides as the game finishes 0-0. I\'m Gary Dowling, thank you for joining me this evening.

Longford's second sub as Ross Fay comes on in place of Armstrong

  • 75'

Just after coming on, O'Sullivan goes straight into the book.

First sub for Longford, Doona replacing Boudiaf

  • 67'

Joe Power into the book for Bray now, something to write about at least.

  • 61'

Three subs for Bray, Feeney, Thompson and Lovic replace Davis, Almirall and Crowley

  • 58'

Game has continued in much the same form, Bray have had more of the ball and the first corner of the game.

  • 46'

Back underway here at the Carlisle, no changes for either side.

  • 47'

And that was the last action of the first half. A pretty uneventful game with Bray having the better of the chances, from Groome and Walker in particular. Longford have had a lot of the ball but failed thus far to threaten.

  • 47'

A chance just before the end for Bray. Power plays a ball to the edge of the box to Groome who jinks in and out and gets a shot off which Brady parries out to Walker who fires over.

  • 46'

A lovely touch from Hand stops Walker getting on the end of a ball over the top.

  • 44'

The yellow cards have been what has livened up this game! O'Connor is Longford's second in the book.

  • 32'

Another yellow for Bray as Murphy has brought down Ibrahim who was breaking down the left

  • 29'

First yellow for Bray as Groome goes into the book for a challenge just inside Bray's half.

  • 23'

A silky run from Boudiaf by he is stopped just as he get's into Bray's box.

  • 17'

Longford have managed to slow the game down here and get back into it after another good Bray opening 15.

  • 10'

A risky challenge by Hand results in the first yellow this evening. Could even have been a red.

  • 8'

Oisin Hand loses out to Jake Walker who then finds himself 1-on-1. His strong effort is straight at Jack Brady though and he doesn't punish the mistake. First big chance

  • 4'

Free kick here for Bray about 30 yards out, risky ball played across Longford\'s box and played on the ground. Massey\'s effort doesn\'t test the keeper.

  • We're underway here at the Carlisle Grounds.

  • Ger Shortt is out of the Bray squad through injury, having started last week against Finn Harps.

  • Two changes for Bray tonight, Conor Davis and Joseph Power are in. Longford name an unchanged side to the one that drew with Cobh last Saturday.

  • Hello and welcome to the Carlisle Grounds where Bray Wanderers host Longford Town. A bitterly cold night here as per. Teams will be out shortly.
