Town End Losing Streak To Move To Eight
Goals from Cristian Magerusan and Beineon O’Brien Whitmarsh saw Longford Town pick up a valuable three points and move up to eighth in the table with victory over Wexford at Bishopsgate.
The visitors ended the game with 10 men after Brandon McCann was shown a straight red in the 87th minute.

O’Brien Whitmarsh gave Town the lead again in the 61st minute. It proved to be the winner as Town picked up their first win since they defeated Wexford away in May.
Viktor Serdeniuk shot over the bar in the 10th minute. O’Brien Whitmarsh proved to be a threat for the home side. He played a good ball to Josh Giurgi in the 20th minute but he headed at Charlie Heffernan.
McCann had a couple of chances to give his side the lead but he squandered them. In the space of two minutes Town keeper Jack Brady did very well to keep his goal intact. Darragh Levingston played a fine ball to Aaron Dobbs, Brady made a fine save to deny him, it came off Dobbs and out for a goal-kick.
The Town netminder denied Levingston, the ball fell to Levingston but Gary Armstrong got back to clear the danger with a fantastic tackle.
Somewhat against the run of play the home side took the lead in the 38th minute.
O’Brien Whitmarsh drove forward, passed the ball to Gavin O’Brien who in turns crossed to Magerusan and he shot home from close range.
The lead only lasted four minutes. A corner from Levingston wasn’t cleared and it eventually fell to Danny Furlong at the back post and he made no mistake. Just before the half-time whistle Cian Byrne had a chance to put Town back in front but he blasted the ball over the bar when he really should’ve done better.
Wexford keeper Charlie Heffernan spilled Armstrong’s effort in the 52nd minute but O’Brien Whitmarsh just couldn’t get the rebound. Town went back in front in the 61st minute. Magerusan this time turned provider and O’Brien Whitmarsh with the finish.
O’Brien Whitmarsh caused havoc for Wexford everytime he was on the ball and they struggled to contain him. Town tried to catch the visitors on the counter on a number of occasions.
Wexford were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute when McCann was shown a straight red for an off the ball incident.
