Match Report

Curran keeps Treaty in promotion fight

Enda Curran’s strike just before the hour mark gave Treaty United a sixth home win of the league season, further cementing their place in the final play-off spot.

These sides played out two draws earlier in the season and it looked like we were headed for a third with little by way of goalmouth action. But as the hour-mark approached Curran pounced for his 11th league strike of the season.

In an underwhelming opening half, there was little work for either keeper to do. Treaty went close through Willie Armshaw from distance while Cobh’s only clear-cut opening saw Jake Hegarty head off the crossbar just minutes before the interval.

Enda Curran steered an Armshaw cross narrowly wide moments later. Ramblers defence had been the most porous in the division prior to kick-off but they showed good structure to deny Armshaw and Dean George the space they desired to create openings.

With the Shannonside side opening with a miserable drizzle all evening, both sides struggled to get into any fluency but did lift the tempo after the break.

But eventually Ben O’Riordan got the desired delivery and found Curran at the near post to the delight of a large home following.

Cobh didn’t offer much by way of opportunities to equalise, their season dwindling to a disappointing conclusion. They finished with 10 men as defender Harlain Mbayo received a second yellow for a foul in the 83rd minute.

  • 85'

Cobh throwing everything at Treaty late on, despite that red card.

  • 69'

Cobh make a double change with Kervick and Desmond into the action.

  • 58'

GOOOOAAAAALLL!! Enda Curran breaks the deadlock with a lovely finish. Ben O'Riordan weaves some magic down the right before a low cross is met by Curran who adds to his growing tally with a tidy first time finish.

  • 47'

Treaty starting with a bit more impetus as Hunt gathers a Christopher cross.

  • 43'

Jake Hegarty heads against the bar. A corner sees a bit of ping pong with Hegarty eventually steering a corner onto the bar from the six-yard line. Big chance for the visitors.

  • 39'

Little happening, but the Treaty fans are signing some Elton John tune, as is their habit.

  • 31'

Willie Armshaw with the first notable shot of the game. His effort flies narrowly wide of the top corner, trying his luck from 22 yards.

  • 28'

Cobh Ramblers win a corner but it comes to nothing.

  • 17'

Enda Curran has a shot blocked behind for a corner by Brendan Frahill.

  • 15'

Treaty win the first corner of the evening.

  • 6'

The rain is now falling heavily in the Markets Field. There is very little to report - in what is a scrappy opening to this contest.

  • 1'

Enda Curran with an early penalty appeal as he races onto a through ball. Referee says nothing doing.

  • We are awaiting team news, with a few players likely to line-out against their former clubs. Ben O’Riordan and Charlie Fleming effectively swapped places this season with Fleming lining out for Treaty for the first half of the season. The Markets Field is looking overcast but so far dry.

  • Good evening and welcome to tonight’s Munster Derby clash between Treaty United and Cobh Ramblers. Tom Clancy here providing the updates, on what will hopefully be an entertaining contest.
