Match Report

Two goal Treaty beat Cobh

Treaty United gave their climb in the table another boost in the First Division 12th round, by beating Cobh Ramblers with a 2-0 win visiting St. Colman’s Park with goals from Charlie Fleming and Mathew McKevitt the difference tonight.

After taking the third spot last week by leaving Wexford victorious, the Limerick side leaped over UCD to take second place, as the Students got smashed in Bray with a 4-nil loss during the weekend.

Both teams came into the pitch looking to extend their good momentum after good results away from home, and it was the visitors taking the best out of the game.

Ian Turner set the first warning with a shot at the edge of the box, but this was no big deal for the goalkeeper Tadhg Ryan.

The Claret and Blue outfit came into the game stronger and in a good spell, looking to visitors through the wings, although this as constantly solved by Ryan.

Cameron Harlson had a good chance to come face-to-face with Ryan, but his last touch was too rough for a nil breaker.

The United were showing themselves uncomfortable with the fast-paced football played out by the opponent but eventually managed to cool down their intentions. and even hold the best opportunity for changing the score after the break.

Joel Coustrain got tackled inside of the box, with the referee leaving the decision to the penalty mark; on the decision, Sean Barron stopped Kieran Hanlon’s effort pushing the scoreless into the second half.

The second 45 minutes brought a whole different story, with its main chapter written in its first and final moments.

Against the run of the play, Fleming sent in a freekick from 40 yards after a deflection on the opponent’s defensive line.

The goal brought both stability for Treaty and anxiety for Ramblers as they delayed to bring proper chances to go back to levels terms.

Five minutes from the end, a terrible approach from a cross by Tadhg Ryan offered Ciaran Griffin the opportunity to set the equaliser, as the ball got booted away off the goal-line.

Moments after, substitute McKevitt did checkmate in the game, sending the ball into the back of the net with a finish from inside the box.
