Match Report

Treaty trio Unite to claim win

Three goals from Treaty United sealed a home win over Cobh Ramblers at the Market's Field in the SSE Airtricity First Division.

Sean McSweeney netted early for the Shannonsiders in a fist half dominated by the home side. Cobh came out fighting in the second and had numerous chances but when Anto O'Donnell tapped in on the 71st minute the game was over. Willie Armshaw's brilliant header soon after capped off a successful night at Market's Field for Treaty.

The early stages were marked by United holding the majority of possession and the Limerick side looked the better team as several Conor Fleming throw-ins threatened the visitors' area. Treaty could not create any meaningful chances however, and the game looked like it could become a scrappy battle as the ball was won and lost by both sides as the opening stages wore on.

As the 10-minute mark approached Treaty's midfield got their heads up and Marc Ludden played an excellent ball into the Cobh box from the left wing. Ludden's ball was expertly angled and all it took was a touch from Treaty's Sean McSweeney to tap it past Cobh goalkeeper Sean Barron for the game's opener on 9 minutes.

Upon conceding Cobh came into the game more and began to enjoy possession although struggled to make it past the Shannonsider's midfield. The visitors had a few forays forward but were forced to shoot from distance by the home defence.

Cobh's Barron was forced to save from a Sean McSweeney header on the half-hour mark before Charlie Lyons cleared it off the line and Stephen Christopher came close again for Treaty before the sides went in with Treaty up 1-0 at half-time.

Ramblers came out a different side in the second half, pressing high and putting the pressure on Treaty, who could not seem to string play together. Conor Drinan led the line for the visitors as they dominated play and came very close around the hour mark, only to hit the post.

Treaty struggled to keep the ball but were able to win set-pieces in the opposition half where they posed a real threat despite their lack of cohesion otherwise. Jack Lynch came close with a header from a cross early on and came close again in the 70th minute when a Treaty cross was deflected out. This time however, O'Donnell got his foot to Lynch's shot and hit it to goal for Treaty's second, totally against the run of play.

Things fell apart for Cobh from there on in and tempers boiled in a side-line skirmish between the two sides. Treaty, now full of confidence, attacked relentlessly and were rewarded when substitute Armshaw's brilliant header constituted Treaty's third of the evening and put the result beyond doubt, placing Treaty firmly in the promotion race.
