Match Report
Treaty stay unbeaten as Ramblers bag first point
Treaty United kept their unbeaten record intact as they held Cobh Ramblers to a 1-all draw. Once again playing the majority of the game with 10 men.
Ramblers nearly got off to the dream start away from home in the opening minute. When Ian Turner found himself through 1 on 1 against Tadhg Ryan, Turner’s goal bound effort was well saved by the Limerick netminder.
The hosts grew into the game after that, with Jack Lynch and Mark Walsh controlling the ball in the middle. This dominance paid off in the 15th minute when Sean McSweeney low cross was put into his own net by the unfortunate Darren Murphy.
Treaty kept on top for the visitors until the 33rd minute when Charlie Fleming went down in the Cobh box. Claims for a penalty were waved away by the ref who was about to book Fleming when the Limerick player raised his hand towards the Cobh defender for this, he was given a red card. That was the third red in as many matches for Barrett’s side.
Cobh started to make their numerical advantage count by gaining control in the middle, with David O’ Leary and Darren Walsh getting time and space with the ball.
With the game heading towards the break and against the run of play, Treaty nearly doubled their lead through McSweeney whose goal bound effort went the wrong side of the post for the home side.
Whatever Stuart Ashton said to his charges at the break it certainly worked, as Cobh had two early chances to level the game with both flying wide of the goal.
It was third time lucky for Cobh, when a free kick was cleared to the edge of the box before Darryl Walsh let fly, with his sweetly struck shot flying into the back of the net.
This was the first goal conceded by the hosts this season. Cobh kept the pressure on while having the advantage of the extra man. There were no major chances created until Barrett’s men broke away.
Substitute Ed McCarthy managed to get behind the defence, but goal scorer Walsh last ditch tackle prevented a certain goal. This was the last major chance of the game as both sides cancelled each other out until the final whistle.
