Kelly bags Final berth for Bohs
Bohemians booked their place in the FAI Cup Final, after a dramatic late Georgie Kelly goal minutes from the end, they overcame Waterford 1-0, in tonight’s last-four encounter at Dalymount Park.
Kelly was the hero for 'The Gypsies' as he showed his striker's instinct, to be in the right place for his side, Brian Murphy looked to be the hero for Waterford, and send the game to a replay as he saved a Kelly penalty in the first period, but it was Bohs night on home turf.
It took until two minutes from time, for the Dubliners to seal the win on a frantic, cagey and ill-disciplined night, as Waterford finished with nine men at the end.
Anthony Wordsworth had a half chance early, his volley failing to hit the target. Kelly had the opening chance for Bohs in the 20th minute, but his touch let him down, and he failed to control the ball.
The Phibsborough outfit looked to the referee for two penalty claims, within the first half hour but both were waved away. The Blues were capable of creating chances, but lacked the final finish as they failed to get beyond the home defence.
It was a case of third time lucky for the Gypsies, as Murphy collided with Kelly in the area, the referee made no delay in pointing to the spot. Kelly stepped up to take but Murphy guessed correctly, diving to his right hand side to save well.
A scoreless first half summed up the tie, both sides could create chances in midfield, getting down well on the channels, but the final third lacked creativity and a killer touch to find the net.
Less than ten minutes into the second half, Kyle Ferguson picked up a second yellow card, the defender hacking down a player on the edge of the box, and given his marching orders as a result.
Both teams created half chances throughout the half, but it was Kelly who made the most of his, a cross from Promise Omochere found Kelly, who finished from close range.
Niall O’Keeffe was also shown a second yellow card minutes later, into added time as Bohs now await St Pats in the FAI Cup Final.
