Match Report
Williams secures late draw in Dalymount
Dean Williams’s late goal ensured that Drogheda and Bohemians would share the spoils at Dalymount Park.
Jordan Flores had put the hosts ahead before half-time with a superb strike in a game they dominated until a dramatic final 15 minutes.
The game’s opening 45 minutes didn’t have the same level of drama as the hosts dominated the game early on.
Bohs would come close to scoring inside the first 20 minutes with Dawson Devoy flicking up a free but he fired over the bat.
Ali Coote played a nice one-two with Devoy, skipped past a Drogheda defender but his effort skimmed the post.
Devoy and Jordan Flores ran the show for Bohs in the first-half creating a handful of chances each.
Flores would be the only one to finish one of those chances, scoring right before half-time when he rifled an effort from the edge of the area into the bottom corner.
The Drogs would produce the early chances after the restart. James Talbot rushed off his line to smother Darragh Nugent’s effort.
Both the game and Bohemians had slowed down in the second-half and it would take Talbot being called into action once again to bring it back to life.
Seán Roughlan’s dipping effort from 25 yards was seen late by the Bohs goalkeeper but he managed to punch it over the bar.
A few minutes later Sam Long would be kept busy, denying Ali Coote at the near post and then palming the Scot’s curling effort around the post soon after.
Liam Burt had a chance to put the game out of sight but his close range effort skimmed the fingers of Long and rattled the crossbar.
It seemed as though the hosts would get their third home win in a row until Dean Williams found himself through on goal after a Darragh Marley flick.
Williams beat Talbot to the ball, lifting it over him to level the score with just seven minutes to go.
The boos that rang around Dalymount made it clear that it was a point gained for The Drogs but two lost for The Gypsies.
In two weeks time they will look to bounce back when they travel to Finn Harps.
Meanwhile Drogheda will look to maintain their good form when they host UCD.
