Match Report
Treaty DLR stalemate at the Bowl
DLR Waves and Treaty United played out a 0-0 draw this afternoon at the UCD Bowl in a game with very few clear-cut chances.
Both teams have struggled for goals this season and that lack of a cutting edge in front of the net was evident from the start here.
Although the two teams can boast of having excellent goalkeepers, with Anne-Marie Ulliac the standout player today in the United goal.
There was not much goal-mouth action in the first half, the play being restricted to the middle of the pitch.
Both sides were happy to go long from set pieces and goal kicks trying to catch the opposition’s defence that way rather than any intrinsically delicate patterns of play.
The Waves had the better of the possession in the opening 20 minutes or so with Ulliac the busier of the two keepers.
The Canadian making a couple of decent saves during the opening period, while her counterpart in the DLR goals only had to make one save of any note when tipping an over-hit freekick over the bar.
Cara Griffin was United’s most dangerous outlet down the right but was caught offside a couple of times, however, she did get in once near the end of the opening period, but her cross was easily snuffed out by Eve Badana.
Kiara Kilbey was presented with a good chance around the 38th-minute mark, when a sloppy back landed at her feet and she attempted to go around the stranded Badana, but the Canadian’s shot went harmlessly wide.
The second half followed in a similar vein, with the home side doing more of the attacking. Cooper Lee Lane made a vital interception to stop what would have been a one-on-one for the Waves.
Ulliac stood up to everything that came her way in the United box, the best save she made was when punching over a Freya Roche shot from a difficult angle.
That chance came from the best bit of combination play of the match, Roche and Michelle Doonan linking up around the edge of the box.
Both managers sent on substitutes in an attempt to open the game up and it was Robyn Bolger who came close to opening the scoring just one minute after being introduced around the 77th minute.
Again, Ulliac made a comfortable save and the match petered out into a goalless draw, that both sides might admit to being happy with at the end of the day.
