Waves hit Treaty for seven in final home performance

DLR Waves scored seven quality goals to end their home league campaign on a high against Treaty United at the UCD Bowl.

In what was an excellent performance from the Waves they showed the full quality and potential of their attacking side with a brace of goals from Kate Mooney along with goals from Shauna Carroll, Katie Malone, Carla McManus, Keri Letmon and a stunning individual effort from Nicole Keogh meaning Graham Kelly has plenty of positives to take into the final game of the season.

DLR took the lead with a well-placed corner by Sarah McKevitt from the right which was headed powerfully goalward by Kate Mooney that beat Michaela Mitchell at her back post. They were to add a second when Nicole Keogh latched onto a loose Treaty pass and took an attempt from distance, the ball looped over Mitchell's outstretched hand and into the roof of the net. The continued pressure from the Waves was rewarded with one of the best goals scored by the home side this season.

While the second goal was that of individual excellence the third was a well-worked team goal. Sophie Watters played a clever ball to McKevitt and in turn, her cross into the Treaty area met the path of the onrushing Katie Malone at the near post. The Blues striker played a clever back heel that beat Mitchell and crept past her to add a well-taken third goal.

The Waves were to get the second half off to the perfect start as Katie Malone broke down the right from a pass from McKevitt and her cross found Katie Mooney unmarked in the area she took her time to curl the ball past Mitchell to add a fourth goal.

DLR added a fifth as Kerri Letmon a second-half change did well to keep the ball in play and then to cross into the area, the initial attempt from Carla McManus from that cross was blocked down and Shauna Caroll was on hand to steer the ball home.

DLR was to add two late goals with Carla McManus adding her name to the score sheet as she tapped in a rebound following an initial save from Mitchell. The scoring was not finished as they were to add a seventh with Keri Letmon scoring as a free kick cannoned off the butt of the post with the DLR attacker on hand to steer the secondary ball past Mitchell.

There was also a senior debut for Ava Gibson Doyle as the talented youth player came on as a late change for the home side. There was some concern for Graham Kelly going into the last game of the season as Nicole Keogh did go off midway through the second half with an injury.
