DLR Waves welcomed Bohemians to the UCD Bowl in the glorious sunshine this afternoon and the two teams took their time to get into any sort of rhythm.

Laura Heffernan’s first game in charge as head coach of the Waves after she stepped into the role replacing Graham Kelly who left for St Patricks during the week.

Bohs were coming off the back of a four-match winning run and were looking to catch up with Peamount and Shamrock Rovers at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, the Waves who have been struggling for wins lately have now gone six games without a victory. Although they can be happy enough with the point, they earned this afternoon.

The first half was an uneventful spectacle with both sides cancelling each other out. Bohs defender Lisa Murphy attempted an overhead in the fifth minute from a corner that went narrowly wide. While the most dangerous actions of the opening period came from set pieces, a couple of Bohemian corners caused some panic in the box, while The Waves threatened with free kicks played long from inside their own half.

Goalkeepers Eve Badana and Rachael Kelly dealt with everything that came their way as the game went in even at the break.

The home side have found goals hard to come by this season, scoring just nine times before this game, while the Gypsies themselves have a slightly better record of 15.

The game livened up with the introduction of Michelle Doonan who came on for Eve O’Brien in the 54th minute the forward tried to make something happen for her side, a sharp turn and quick shot almost caught Kelly out in the Bohemian goals in the 62nd minute.

Just two minutes later she found herself charging down on goal after stealing the ball from a bouncing ball on the halfway line. Kelly came rushing out off her line and Doonan attempted to round her but her shot tamely squirmed wide.

Not much happened after that as the game petered out with both teams possibly happy with the result.
So, a goalless stalemate here today in this Dublin derby, which was a fair result between two evenly-matched teams.
