Barry Brace Keeps Treaty In Promotion Picture

A brace from Conor Barry kept Treaty Utd’s season still alive as Longford Town fell to a third defeat in a row and dropped to eighth in the table.

Barry broke the deadlock in the 55th minute but Town drew level through Dylan Hand. Adam Lennon and Barry gave the visitors a 3-1 lead in the 68th minute. Derek Daly pulled a goal back for Town in the 87th minute but it was too little too late.

With the rainfall that fell earlier in the day in the Midlands, the underfoot conditions were quite heavy with water still lying in areas of the pitch. There was a poor crowd too in attendance at Bishopsgate.

In what was a poor and lacklustre first  half Treaty looked liveliest but neither side created much to trouble either keeper. Lennon and Dean George had early shots for the Limerick side but both went wide.

Lee Devitt’s low shot in the 15th minute went wide while down the other end Cristian Magerusan couldn’t connect with a Kyle O’Connor cross.

Town had to defend well as Treaty tried to open the scoring. In the 26th minute a free was played short to Lennon, he played a good ball over the top of the Town defence that found Conor Barry but he headed over.

Treaty were bright in the early exchanges of the second half. In the 55th minute they took the lead through Barry; Success Edogun did very well he tried to take a shot and the ball was finished to the net by Barry.

Town were back on level terms in the 60th minute; from a corner there appeared to be a handball into the box that referee Declan Toland failed to give, the loose ball came to Hand and he finished to the net.

Three minutes later Treaty went back in front; George’s ball into the box was powerfully headed home by Lennon. Tommy Barrett’s side got their third goal minutes later and it was Success who was involved again. The home defence failed to clear the ball and Barry made no mistake with the finish.

Town substitutes Derek Daly and Jordan Adeyemo both had chances that hit the crossbar as the home side tried to salvage something. Daly scored Town’s second goal with an excellent free in the 87th minute.

Corey Chambers brought off a superb save in stoppage time to deny Adeyemo an equaliser.

  • Town have lost two games in a row. Last Friday night at home to Waterford and then on Monday away to Wexford. Treaty had a fine 4-1 win over Athlone Town at the Markets Field last Friday night

  • There are 8 points between these sides and Athlone in 5th position. With 4 games to go both sides would need to win all their games and hope Athlone drop points.

  • Just goal difference separates these two sides in the table. Just one goal in fact. Town are now in 7th with Treaty in 8th. Town dropped down last night after Bray's win over Cobh Ramblers.
