Ten-man Town strike late to snatch points
A brace from substitute Cristian Magerusan earned 10 man Longford Town their first ever win over Treaty Utd at the Markets Field.
Dean George’s goal in the 44th minute looked to have sealed the win for the home side but Magerusan had other ideas. Town had been reduced to 10 men in the 78th minute when Aaron Walsh was sent off for a second yellow card.
Adam Lennon had given Treaty the lead in the 12th minute but Gary Armstrong drew Town level in the 20th minute. Magerusan’s two goals late on gave Town a valuable 3 points.
The win moves Town up to seventh in the table. It was an even opening 10 minutes with both sides creating a few half chances. The home side took the lead in the 12th minute through Lennon. Marc Ludden’s throw-in was flicked on by Sean Guerins and then headed to the net by Lennon for his first goal for the club.
The visitors were back on level terms in the 20th minute. Kyle O’Connor did well to find Adam Wixted, he found Armstrong and he fired home from just inside the box.
George found the head of Lee Devitt in the 33rd minute but his effort went over the bar. Down the other end Town then had two good chances to take the lead with Jordan Adeyemo having both of them. In the 38th minute Shane Elworthy played a long ball and found Adeyemo, he lobbed the ball over Corey Chambers but it just went wide.
Seconds later he had another chance for the visitors. Dylan Hand did well when Treaty attacked in the 40th minute. In the 42nd minute Enda Curran’s powerful free-kick on the edge of the box was blocked down by the head of Viktor Serdeniuk.
After the Town player was seen to, the ref gave back possession to the home side. Ludden played the ball to Devitt, he found George, he turned before firing a beautiful shot to the net.
Both sides had chances to grab another goal. In the 71st minute Chambers had to pull off a double save to deny the visitors an equaliser. Manager Stephen Henderson rang the changes and it was his substitute Magerusan that claimed the win for Town.
He drew them level with a stunning free-kick in the 87th minute and then in stoppage time, he finished to the net after good play from another substitute Beineon O’Brien Whitmarsh.
