Match Report
A late Dean George goal secured a first win of the season for Treaty United as they overcame Longford 3-2 at the Markets Field. George was joined on the scoresheet by Lee Devitt and Success Edogun as they gave Tommy Barret’s side a first three point haul this season with the hope to push up the table. Longford twice came from behind, Francis Campell tied the game after 22 minutes before Josh Giurgi felt he had done enough to secure a share of the points with ten to go, only for George to snatch a winner. Treaty pressed early and started the better of the sides, they were rewarded with a goal after six minutes, a free kick just outside the Longford box was awarded to the home side, Devitt stood over it and struck a beauty into the bottom corner for a 1-0 lead. Minutes later De Town almost levelled, but Gary Armstrong’s effort was a danger for those in the street behind the goal rather than the net minder, former Treaty man Jack Brady, Longford pressed again minutes later but Ben O'Riordan put in a shift to win back possession via a free kick. It was all Longford in this amount of exchanges, Hallahan would be beaten after 20 minutes as Francis Campbell had his initial shot saved but he recovered and kept his head to slot home on the second attempt. A couple of free kicks gave Longford the chance to keep pressing, but they came to nothing, after the half hour mark Campbell had another effort but it flew wide. Treaty came close to regaining their lead as Willie Armshaw tested his former team mate Jack Brady in the Town goal. Longford pressed for a second in the dying minutes, but Treaty held out, Campbell struck wide, Giurgi had a shot blocked and an Armstrong cross was headed over, the hosts breathing heavily as we headed to the break. As we began the second half Viktor Serdeniuk and Aodh Dervin both had efforts at goal but were no threat to the hosts, but minutes later it was 2-1, the hosts back ahead, Edogun with a rocket of a strike from the edge of the Longford box rifled into the top corner a wonder goal to put Treaty back ahead. Both sides looked to add to their tally, Andy Spain had a header at the back post saved, while Campbell was proving a handful for Treaty but the scoreline remained the same. That all changed in the 80th minute as a spell of pressure by the visitors saw them draw level, Sam Verdon with a lovely pass across the six yard box was guided home from close range by Giurgiu. Game back on in the Markets Field but the visiting support would be muted three minutes later, Brady again made a great save to keep Town in the tie, but Dean George was there to head home from close range, a big goal that proved the winner, he almost had a second minutes later but it was pulled wide of goal, but a much needed win for the Shannonsiders.George Strikes Late For First Treaty Win
