Match Report
Dalymount draw for Bohs and Shels
It was honours even at Dalymount Park as Bohemians and Shelbourne played out a scoreless draw.
In a game of few real scoring opportunities, neither keeper had to pull off a save of real note. Ali Coote’s free in the 43rd minute came off the crossbar while Kris Twardek cleared Gavin Molloy’s effort off the line in the 79th minute.
The result doesn’t change either side’s position in the table with Bohs still in third and Shels in sixth position.
In a first half where clear-cut chances were at a premium neither keeper was tested,
The best chance of the half didn’t arrive until the 43rd minute. Adam McDonnell was fouled and Coote stepped up to take the free but it came off the crossbar. Before that Twardek got himself down to the endline, he decided to take a shot instead of playing the ball back and Shels were able to clear.
Declan McDaid had the first chance of the game in the 14th minute; Jordan Flores’ effort was cleared but it fell to McDaid who had a strike but it went wide. Minutes later Matty Smith saw his shot deflected out for a corner while former Bohs player Tyreke Wilson hit a free over the bar in the 28th minute.
In the 40th minute Jordan Flores played the ball to Jonathan Afolabi but Luke Byrne showed his defensive qualities.
Shels had the first chance of the second half but Jack Moylan’s snapshot was straight at James Talbot in the 53rd minute. Bohs won a few corners as they put pressure on the Shels defence but they didn’t trouble Conor Kearns in the Shelbourne goals.
In the 62nd minute James McManus played a beautiful ball into sub James Akintunde but he headed at Kearns.
Sean Boyd made a welcome return for Shels in the 70th minute when he came on for Smith. He had been out since picking up an injury in the first game of the season.
Both sides went in search of the goal that would break the deadlock. In the 79th minute Molloy’s effort was cleared off the line by Twardek.
