Match Report
Coffey rescues late point for Rebel Army
Cork City had to come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against an impressive Longford Town at Turners Cross.
City started the better in the opening exchanges although Longford grew into the game after the opening ten minutes and almost took the lead when Jordan Ademeyo charged down a David Harrington clearance.
While they would have hoped for a solid start, the visitors were in dreamland after 15 minutes when Dylan Barnett struck a wonderful long-range effort which beat Harrington for a 1-0 lead.
Longford didn’t rest on their laurels and kept pushing forward. Ademyo went close with another long-range strike while they also managed to expose the acres of space that City left in behind their defence.
Mark Hanratty had the pick of the Longford chances, but he struck his shot straight at Harrington from five yards out much to the relief of an eerily quiet Turners Cross.
Despite being on the back foot for the majority of the half, City nearly levelled in the 43rd minute when Cian Murphy forced a tremendous double save from Longford goalkeeper Luke Dennison.
City made a better start to the second half as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser, their finishing however let them down with the loss of top scorer Ruairí Keating keenly felt.
The hosts came close to levelling ten minutes into the second half after a goalmouth scramble in front of the shed end ensued. Longford to their credit, managed to survive through resilient last ditch tackles.
City eventually got their goal on the hour mark through Barry Coffey. The midfielder tapped home from a chaotic corner in which Cian Coleman also hit the bar before Coffey tapped home from close range.
Longford should have retaken the lead almost immediately when Jordan Ademeyo pounced on a David Harrington mistake before putting the ball wide.
Ademeyo would make up for it however in the 67th minute when he headed from Barnett’s cross to make it 2-1.
2-1 nearly became 2-2 in the 76th minute when City had the ball in the net from an Allie Gilchrist header but was pulled back for a foul on Dennison in the penalty box.
The hosts finally got their equaliser in the 83rd minute once again through Coffey with a clinical finish after the ball bundled into his path.
City pushed for the winner but in the end had to be content with a point in what was an impressive performance from Longford.

Full time. 2-2 it finishes with City having to be content with a point against an excellent Longford side.

Sub for Cork as Dylan McGlade comes on for James Doona.
Adameyo scores from a header and in fairness that was coming. 2-1 Longford.
My goodness, a mistake from Harrington lets Adayemo through on goal and would have scored if he didn't take an eternity to shoot. Massive let off for City there.
Coffey equalises. Carnage from the corner in which Coleman hit the bar before eventually Coffey manages to tap home.
Great save from Dennison to deny Barry Coffey.
A goalmouth scramble ensues in front of the shed but Longford manage to survive.
Couple of half chances for City at the start of the second half but their finishing is letting them down.

McMenamey goes close from long range for Longford while City launch their first attack in what feels like an eternity that comes to nothing.
Josh Honohan gets booked for City for a late challenge.
Another close call for Longford there through Mark Hanratty who has a free shot but hits it straight at Harrington from five yards out.
Dean McMenamey with a dangerous run into the box for Longford and wins a corner which is cleared. This is the most pressure City have been under all season arguably.
Cian Murphy for City gets a shot away just inside the box but fires just over.
All Longford at the moment and have laid on somewhat of a siege on the City goal. 1-0 it remains however.
Adayemo has another long range shot for the visitors but this time Harrington is equal to it.
Longford finding acres of space in behind the City defence. They were left with a three on two which they really should have converted to double their lead.
Dylan Barrett with a wonderful finish into the top corner from 30 yards out to give Longford the lead. Shame there is literally no Longford fans here to witness it.
Cian Bargary gives a dodgy back pass to David Harrington in the Cork goal and longford striker Jordan Adayemo is nearly able to take advantage. His charge down goes wide however.
Good run down the right hand side by Cian Murphy but there is no one in the box to play the ball into and instead has to take a show which is saved at the front pace.
Bright start from City although Longford are beginning to enjoy some possession.
Game on and City win a corner straight away.
