Match Report
Oluwa helps Wexford breach Treaty
Thomas Oluwa bagged the only goal of the game as Wexford defeated Treaty United 1-0 at Ferrycarrig Park to nab a huge three points in the promotion race.
A yellow card for a crunching tackle by Lee Devitt mere seconds into the tie for Treaty was quite the brisk start to the game, this however came to be an outlier in a flat performance by the away side
Corban Piper had a powerful header well saved as Conor Winn stretched to his left to keep the Wexford midfielder’s effort out of the net two minutes into the game.
Luka Lovic mistimed a free header from an excellent Corbally cross, the ball hitting his shoulder and bouncing out of harm's way in a position where Lovic will feel very disappointed he couldn't even test the keeper.
Dean George had a fantastic chance just before the half hour mark for Treaty, running through with just Charlie Heffernan in the Wexford goal to beat, but he struck only against Heffernan’s legs from a tight enough angle to put off the strikers finish.
Thomas Oluwa could only hit the keeper who came out to meet him after being put through on 40 minutes, but three minutes later he wouldn't repeat his mistake, beating Winn to the ball, rounding the stranded keeper and rolling the ball into the net from an extremely tight angle to give Wexford a deserved lead on the balance of play going into halftime.
Treaty tried to find a way back into the match when the second half started but looked pretty uninspiring in most of their play as they chased the game.
Brandon McCann came thundering onto a long throw close to goal on 66 minutes, but he directed the header high over the bar to keep the score to just one.
Thomas Oluwa ran free on yet another occasion soon after, but he opted to take his shot first time and unlike his previous effort, miscued this effort high and wide.
Treaty pushed time and time again in the closing minutes, but poor quality and determined Wexford defending meant they had no clear chance in the second half, instead falling to defeat in a limp attacking performance, losing ground in the promotion race. Wexford on the other hand jump into the playoff spots and will hope to remain there for the rest of the season.

Full time arrives here at Ferrycarrig Park as Wexford secure the win through a Thomas Oluwa first half goal. Treaty pushed in the closing minutes but failed to create any clear chances in a flat performance that leaves them trailing Wexford now by four points in the league. Wexford hop into the coveted playoff places with this win, a place they'll hope to stay for the remainder of the season
Free header at the backrest from a Treaty free kick but its straight into Heffernan's arms who falls on the ball ready to take as much time as he can
Four minutes added time won't help Wexford nerves
Wexford can taste the heralded top five position a win here will provide them, just two minutes plus injury time to hang on as Heffernan grabs one flying across goal from a flicked on long throw
There is a tense feeling around the ground, Wexford know how big this three points is for their season
Wexford have set their stall out deep in their own half, looking to protect their lead for the remains eight or so minutes
Treaty are trying to up the tempo here but Wexford's resilience has remained staunch so far
Conroy finds his way into the referee's notebook with a foul from behind
Oluwa runs free again but completely miscues his shot this time, opting to take it first time and sending it high and a long way wide
Reece Webb picks up a yellow for a cynical foul to stop a Treaty counter
Brandon McCann came flying onto a throw in once again flung into the mixer, but he directs his header over the bar from close range
Treaty have struggled to impose themselves in the first hour of this game but they are still within striking distance of their opponents and one moment of class could turn this match on its head
Yellow for Lovic for an accumulation of fouls throughout the game
Good break by Treaty, but George's shot at the end clears the bar and the net behind it, disappointing once again for the away side
Foul by Boyle and a free kick in a great position for Treaty, but the shot is low and straight at Heffernan, bobbling straight into his grasp
Back on now as Treaty will look to make a comeback into this one against their closest league rival, while Wexford will want to hold onto the playoff place they find themselves in right now
Halftime here at Ferrycarrig Park as Wexford go in one goal in the ascendency thanks to a goal by Thomas Oluwa two minutes before the half time whistle. Treaty should have taken the lead through George Dean half an hour in but before and since that moment Wexford have looked in control and that's been reflected in the suorline here thus far
Wexford take the lead through Thomas Oluwa, breaking down the left hand wing, his electric speed allowing him to beat the keeper to a through pass, taking it around Winn and slotting it home from a very tight angle in confident fashion
Lee Devitt fires a left footed half volley bouncing across the goal just the wrong side of the right hand post from the edge of the area
Some clever, intricate attacking play down the Wexford left hand side holds a lot of promise, but as yet they haven't been able to create the clear cut chance they've been waiting for
That chance came against the run of play, with Wexford definitely looking the more in control of this tie in the opening half hour
Dean George runs clear for Treaty and despite finding himself one on one with Heffernan in the Wexford goal, he can only strike against the widely spread keeper's legs from an angle on the left hand side of the six yard area
Treaty threaten with a free kick from an excellent position on the corner of the penalty area but ultimately comes to nothing once again as Treaty have struggled to maintain some attacking play so far this half
Luka Lovic finds himself unmarked in the box on the end of a fantastic cross by Corbally, but the ball hits his shoulder as he fails to direct the ball goalward
Ten minutes in, and the game has started at a good pace. Wexford are deploying long throws so far and it does look like a tactic that could bear some fruit as the Treaty defenders are struggling to clear the flat ball flight at the first time of asking
A powerful header by Corban Piper forces Treaty keeper Conor Winn into an early diving save as this game opens with a eventful few minutes
We are off here and instantly a crunching tackle ends in a yellow card for Treaty's Lee Devitt just seconds in
Sixth place Wexford sit only a point ahead of seventh place Treaty coming into this one as both teams will be giving everything they have for these huge three points
Just a couple of minutes now before the start of this playoff crunch match between Wexford FC and Treaty United at Ferrycarrig Park
