Match Report

Oluwa helps Wexford breach Treaty

Thomas Oluwa bagged the only goal of the game as Wexford defeated Treaty United 1-0 at Ferrycarrig Park to nab a huge three points in the promotion race.

A yellow card for a crunching tackle by Lee Devitt mere seconds into the tie for Treaty was quite the brisk start to the game, this however came to be an outlier in a flat performance by the away side

Corban Piper had a powerful header well saved as Conor Winn stretched to his left to keep the Wexford midfielder’s effort out of the net two minutes into the game.

Luka Lovic mistimed a free header from an excellent Corbally cross, the ball hitting his shoulder and bouncing out of harm's way in a position where Lovic will feel very disappointed he couldn't even test the keeper.

Dean George had a fantastic chance just before the half hour mark for Treaty, running through with just Charlie Heffernan in the Wexford goal to beat, but he struck only against Heffernan’s legs from a tight enough angle to put off the strikers finish.

Thomas Oluwa could only hit the keeper who came out to meet him after being put through on 40 minutes, but three minutes later he wouldn't repeat his mistake, beating Winn to the ball, rounding the stranded keeper and rolling the ball into the net from an extremely tight angle to give Wexford a deserved lead on the balance of play going into halftime.

Treaty tried to find a way back into the match when the second half started but looked pretty uninspiring in most of their play as they chased the game.

Brandon McCann came thundering onto a long throw close to goal on 66 minutes, but he directed the header high over the bar to keep the score to just one.

Thomas Oluwa ran free on yet another occasion soon after, but he opted to take his shot first time and unlike his previous effort, miscued this effort high and wide.

Treaty pushed time and time again in the closing minutes, but poor quality and determined Wexford defending meant they had no clear chance in the second half, instead falling to defeat in a limp attacking performance, losing ground in the promotion race. Wexford on the other hand jump into the playoff spots and will hope to remain there for the rest of the season.

  • 45'

Halftime here at Ferrycarrig Park as Wexford go in one goal in the ascendency thanks to a goal by Thomas Oluwa two minutes before the half time whistle. Treaty should have taken the lead through George Dean half an hour in but before and since that moment Wexford have looked in control and that's been reflected in the suorline here thus far

  • 43'

Wexford take the lead through Thomas Oluwa, breaking down the left hand wing, his electric speed allowing him to beat the keeper to a through pass, taking it around Winn and slotting it home from a very tight angle in confident fashion
