Peamount strike late to snatch win on Shannonside
Kate Mooney sealed all three points for Peamount at the death when she slotted a goal home in the 85th minute to beat out Treaty United 1-0 in the Markets Field.
Peamount struggled to find a break through for large periods of the game, Tara O’Hanlon’s first-half red card making it difficult for The Peas to muster up any real chances of quality.
Kiara Kilbey nearly put her side ahead on two occasions when she found herself on the end of two lighting-quick breaks, but was punished for her lack of killer edge when Mooney put The Peas ahead in the dying embers of the game.
The start of the game saw Treaty willingly soak up the pressure and opting to break with pace, Kiara Kilbey relishing her runs behind the Peamount backline and latching on to any lofted balls over the top.
A quick link-up with Hailey Walsh in the 10th minute saw the Canadian break through on goal, her initial shot blocked by Lauryn O’Callaghan, the following effort rifled towards the top right corner, beating Niamh Reid-Burke and rattling off the crossbar.
Peamount enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but were held at bay by some savvy defending from The Shannonsiders, their best chance falling to top scorer Kate Moony, the striker unable to direct Becky Watkin’s cross into either corner as Anne-Marie Ulliac collected her shot comfortably.
Disaster struck for The Peas minutes later when a lightning-quick counter from Treaty saw Kilbey switch the ball over to the on-rushing Jessica Heffernan who found herself through on goal and swiftly bundled over by Tara O’Hanlon. Referee Chris Sheehan gave O’Hanlon her marching orders instantaneously, James O’Callaghan’s problems going from bad to worse when Dora Gorman was also forced off with a knock.
It was unclear if Treaty would attempt to take advantage of the added space that O’Hanlon’s dismissal created, but as the second half got underway it looked like Alban Hysa instructed his side to replicate the previous half’s tactics, failing to get a look in on goal for the majority of the second half.
Despite the red card Peamount continued to probe at the Treaty defence but were still unable to muster up any sizeable opportunities, Ellen Dolan going closest as her header narrowly veered past Ulliac’s right post.
A flurry of chances saw Kilbey go incredibly close to giving her side all three points, firing a rebound past Reid-Burke who was left in the dead zone after making a save from a Katie Lawlee shot, Jess Fitzgerald clearing Kilbey’s shot off the line.
That near-death experience seemed to have elicited a response from The Peas, Karen Duggan hitting the crossbar with a header on the other end just a minute later. Duggan was again involved when she threaded a perfectly weighted through ball into Kate Mooney’s feet, the league’s top scorer finishing calmly as she slotted the ball home past Ulliac into the bottom left corner to win the game at the death.
Treaty will stay in The Market’s Field for their next fixture, taking on a Wexford Youths side that has so far struggled to hit the heights of their previous season.
Peamount will clash against fellow title challengers Galway United next week in PLR Park, Galway just one point shy of The Peas in league standings.

Full-time at The Markets Field. Peamount United 1-0 Treaty United.
Three minutes of added time to be played in The Markets Field.
Goal! Duggan threads Kate Mooney through on goal and the league's top scorer finishes calmly, slotting the ball past Ulliac into the bottom left hand corner!
And down the other end Karen Duggan's header leaves the crossbar shaking!
A huge chance for Treaty! They break with pace once again and Lawlee draws a good save from Reid-Bukre, the rebound falling to Kilbey who looked to have scored, her shot blocked off the line by Jess Fitzgerald!
Treaty break with a 4 vs 2 on goal, Naoise Griffin's pass just too heavy as the attack peters out and is intercepted by O'Callaghan.
Hannah Saidy and Ruth McDonnel replace Kilbey and Aoife Mulkern.
Ellen Dolan goes close, her header just veering past Ulliac's right post.
Treaty look happy to replicate their tactics from the 1st half as they're yet to have a look in on goal so far this half.
Katie Lawlee comes on for Heffernan.
Karen Duggen puts out a brilliant long ball to Mooney on the left wing, Mooney closed down instantly by Alannah Mitchell and forced to pass backwards.
No changes for either side made at the interval.
And the hosts get things back underway!
Half-time: Treaty United 0-0 Peamount United.
Walsh carded for a late tackle on Reid-Burke.
It will be interesting to see if Treaty make use of the additional space that O'Hanlon's exit will create, or if they'll be content to settle for a draw.
And it's gone from bad to worse for James O'Callaghan's side, Dora Gorman hobbling off the pitch after a bad knock. She's replaced by Chloe Moloney.
Red card for Tara O'Hanlon! A lightning-quick counter act sees Kilbey latch onto the ball and switch the play to Jessica Heffernan who's clear on goal and is bundled over by O'Hanlon, referee Chris Sheehan waving the red card instantly.
Sadbh Doyle links up well with Mooney on the left flank and flashes a dangerous cross that just ripples off the side-netting of the Treaty goal.
Becky Watkins sends in a cross for Mooney who gets solid contact on the ball but can't place it in either corner, Ulliac collecting the ball comfortably.
Ulliac does well to clear a cross from five yards out that was seemingly destined for the head of Kate Mooney.
A shot outside the box from Sadbh Doyle is deflected and looks to be ballooning over Anne-Marie Ulliac's goal but Doyle's effort drops down rapidly and nearly sneaks it way into the goal.
Treaty are really enjoying soaking up the pressure and breaking with pace. Walsh again feeds Kilbey down the line, as the Treaty forward draws a good save from Reid-Burke, the linesman raising his flag shortly after.
Kiara Kilbey hits the bar! A one-two with Hailey Walsh sees her up into the Peamount box and the Canadian's initial shot is blocked Lauryn O'Callaghan. Kilbey seizes on the rebound and rifles a shot that has Niamh Reid-Burke beat and rattles the crossbar.
And as expected, Peamount have dominated the opening minutes, enjoying the lion's share of possession and spending plenty of time in Treaty's final third.
And Peamount get the action underway in The Markets Field!
Kelsey Wings starts on the Shannonsiders' bench as the she carries a knock. Youngster Katie Lawlee also misses out on the starting XI, having competed internationally on Thursday. Peamount look to have a fully healthy side.
Treaty manager Hysa expects his team to be uncompromising in their approach to the game despite the stature of his opponents: “Peamount have got one of the best teams in the league. It will be a hard task to get something out of the game, but one thing we are happy with the players about is their determination and willingness to compete which has given us a different flavour this year,” he said. “There is a great bond within the squad to go on and achieve something this year.”
“I definitely want to go pro soon. If the opportunity arises I would never say no. With the move to Peamount and where we are in the league, there are a lot more people watching," she said. “It's about putting consistent performances together now.”
The Peas\' rich vein of form this season can in part be attributed to new signee Kate Mooney, the striker\'s arrival from DLR Waves yielding five goals and the title of the league\'s top scorer. Speaking to The Mirror on her performances this campaign Mooney said: “I didn\'t expect to start this way, and I\'m surprising myself every single day. All I do is work every day on the pitch and the goals are coming. \"But it\'s normal when you have players like Sadhbh Doyle, Erin McLaughlin and Karen Duggan creating chances that I\'ll have more opportunities to score.\"
Peamount come into the fixture well rested, their last match a goalless draw against Shamrock Rovers at the tail end of April, goalkeeping heroics from Amanda Budden preventing The Peas from gaining a leg up in the title race.
