Match Report

‘Pea’fect second half against Treaty

A superb second-half performance from Peamount was crowned with Eleanor Ryan-Doyle’s brace and Aine O'Gorman’s brilliant goal; as the visitors delivered a 3-nil win over Treaty United this afternoon at Jackman Park.

The 2020 season champions return to the top of the Women’s National League yet to be beaten, as they forced the third consecutive defeat for the Limerick side.

Both clubs presented a brilliant showcase for the WNL during the first half, with plenty of chances to open the score.

The visitors reset the system in the changing room as they grabbed all three points with a fantastic show in the second half.

It would be a hard challenge for a random viewer to understand which team was Treaty United, due to the very promising opening of matters they brought to face the almighty Peas.

The visitors one-touch football found a solid shield-wall at the back, and on many occasions replied with dangerous counter moves looking for an early goal, becoming hard to remember which club was at which side of the league table.

Peamount saw the first goal-chance, when Stephanie Roche watched on, as her strong shot was punched away by Michaela Mitchell. The frenetic pace brought an immediate reply, with Aoife Horgan missing a golden chance to beat Naoisha McAllon, as the keeper kept it all square with a tremendous stop.

James O'Callaghan’s troops became more aggressive passing the half-hour mark; a ball bouncing around inside United’s box ended up as a goal kick for Mitchell.

Karen Duggan and Áine O’Gorman had their try moments after, although not lucid enough to find Mitchell’s net. Roche set the last attempt before the break, with a right-foot shot going slightly off the right post.

The second half brought a completely different show; Peamount’s higher pressure matched the incapacity of the Limerick side to find attacking positions, and the locker got broken with 53 minutes on the clock.

No efforts could have stopped Eleanor Ryan-Doyle’s brilliant shot from outside of the box, putting it past Mitchell with a sensational curveball.

The prey was exposed, and 15 minutes were enough to finish the kill; O’Gorman added in the second with a classic finish, and Doyle completed the brace two minutes later heading a good cross coming in from the right-wing.

The hosts found it impossible to give the adversity a reaction until dying embers, however, the very promising first half facing such a powerful side brings hope to further duties.
