Galway break Treaty to seal all three points
Galway United scored three times through Kate Thompson, Jodie Griffin & Jamie Erickson to earn a hard fought 3-0 victory against their hosts Treaty United at Markets Field this evening in the Women's Premier Division.
In what could have easily turned into an end of season meaningless game both sides came to play and Galway United's first competitive women's visit to the Limerick venue certainly brought enough tension with numerous players involved having worn both jerseys in the league.
United would dominate most of the game but struggled to take the opportunities they created through a combination of some poor finishing and last gasp defending from the home side.
On twenty minutes a loose clearance from Treaty would fall to the feet of Galway midfielder Kate Thompson, under pressure she seemed to have all the time in the world and her beautifully placed effort dipped over the Canadian keeper Anne-Marie Ulliac and just dropped under the crossbar to put the visitors in front.
Just before half time it was a case of history repeating itself, another poor clearance fell to Jodie Griffin who found the exact same spot out of the reach of Ulliac and just under the woodwork to double the lead.
Making her debut for the tribeswomen, Julieanne Russell was fantastic throughout causing trouble for the home side until her withdrawal late on. Aislinn Meaney also made an impact when she came in as a second half substitute but just couldn't find a way past the impressive Canadian in goals.
Galway would strike for a final goal with a header from Jamie Erickson putting a gloss on the scoreline in favour of the visitors.
For Treaty as well as Ulliac, Sarah Duke Power was very impressive but eventually the higher firepower of Galway United would tell.

We're back underway but play has been stalled due to an injury to a Treaty United player who is receiving attention in her own penalty box.
It's deja vu for Treaty keeper Ulliac as the ball is semi cleared to the edge of the box and a looping effort from Jodie Griffin finds a path out of her reach and under the crossbar to double the lead for the visitors.
Kate Thompson opens the scoring with a blistering long range effort that creeps under the crossbar.
