Dossen Magic Extends Galway United Unbeaten Run
A first half goal from Eve Dossen saw Galway Utd extend their unbeaten run to six games with a win over Treaty Utd at Eamonn Deacy Park.
The only goal of the game came in the 31st minute through Dossen. The home side dominated the majority of proceedings but for all their possession they couldn’t get a second goal.
The home side thought they’d got a second in the 69th minute when Aoife Thompson’s strike looked to have gone in but it wasn’t given.
Galway bossed the early exchanges but didn’t carve out too many scoring opportunities. In the 15th minute Kate Thompson’s shot from distance got a deflection out for a corner. From the corner a volley from Jamie Erickson was blocked down.
In the 26th minute Treaty keeper Ann-Marie Ulliac brought off an excellent save to tip Thompson’s shot onto the crossbar. It was all Galway as they pressed for the opening goal.
The goal eventually came in the 31st minute. A corner from Lynsey McKey met the head of Dossen at the back past and she found the bottom corner of the net.
The home side started the second half well and in the 52nd minute Aoife played a neat ball to McKey but she hit her effort wide. In the 61st minute McKey turned before she shot but her strike sailed over the bar.
Galway thought their pressure had paid off and they’d a second goal in the 69th minute. Jenna Slattery flicked the ball up for McKey, her strike was tipped onto the bar again by Ulliac and the rebound looked to have been finished to the net by Aoife Thompson but it wasn’t given.
McKey’s volley in the 74th minute hit the post as Galway continued to press for a goal to double their advantage.
Against the run of play Treaty sub Katie Lawlee had a shot in the 77th minute but it didn’t trouble Galway keeper Jessica Berlin. A corner from McKey in the 82nd minute fell to substitute Jodie Griffin but Ulliac was able to gather.
