Match Report

Wexford snatch late point from South East Rivals

Aaron Dobbs scored late on to give Wexford a share of the spoils at an entertaining Ferrycarrig Park this evening.

Two goals in ten second half minutes saw Waterford take a 2-0 lead early in the second half Armando Junior 53 minute free kick opened the scoring for the away side while just 6 minutes later Roland Idowu snuck in at the back post to tap home to double Waterford's lead.

A penalty for Connor Barry in the 65th minute got Wexford back into what was turning into an exciting half of football and after 83 minutes sub Aaron Dobbs finished off a brilliant team move to bring his side level in a great contest with both sides sharing the points in a 2-2 draw.

Wexford started the brighter of the two sides in the opening exchanges of the match pinning the away side back with smooth interplay and creative attacking although they created no major chances in this period it always seemed they were one pass away from a major opening.

After the 20th minute mark Waterford got into their stride and it was Darragh Power whose back post effort had Alex Mooney scrambling to make a great save to keep the sides level.

It was Waterford who took charge from that point with Lee O'Sullivan clearing another Waterford effort off the line before the chance of the half on the 35th minute Wassim Aouachria rounded the Wexford keeper on the edge of the box only for his seeming tap in to be saved and scooped over the bar by Jordan Tallon who cased what seemed a hopeless cause to keep his side in the game.

Waterford finished out the half on top with Wexford gald be in 0-0 going in at the break.

Waterfords good end to the first half carried into the second half as they found the back of the net from a brilliant free kick from Junior Armando's strike from the edge of the area finding the top corner after 52 minutes.

Wexford seemed to lose their composure going a goal down while giving a flurry of free kicks away between the 52nd and 59th minutes and again they were punished after 59 minutes Yassine En-Neyah found himself some space on the wing and after some great work squared the ball into the box an Roland Idowu was there to tap it home 2 goals in 10 minutes Waterford cruising.

Wexford regained their focus and after 65 minutes a handball in the area gave Wexford their first main chanch a penalty and Connor Barry stepped up and slotted home confidently 2-1 and Wexford back in the game.

Wexford now full of confidence and chasing the game started to create more going forward. Waterford looked dangerous on the break but it was the home side who found the back of the net once more, in the 83rd minute Aaron Dobbs finished off a well worked team goal to bring his side level after being 2-0 down after 70 minutes, a wonderful turnaround by the Youths.

Neither side was able to snatch a late winner but great display from both sides in a great match for all spectators Waterford may be disappointed with a draw after all the effort in the early stages, but they can take pride and confidence in this result moving forwards.
