Match Report
McCarthy difference as Galway win
An Ed McCarthy goal on 36 minutes was the difference as Galway claimed a crucial three points in front of 4,994 spectators at Turners Cross.
Dylan McGlade was a bright spark for City using his pace to great effect down the left channel. He was forced off with what appeared to be a muscle injury on 21 minutes with James Doona coming on in his place.
Cork continued to get on the front foot however and Galway defender Conor O’Keefe had to clear Cian Bargary’s cross off the line on 28 minutes.
Despite not having much possession or chances, it was Galway who hit the front on 36 minutes. A good run from Wilson Waweru down the left wing who back heeled the ball to David Hurley which left the Cork defence for dust. His ball found Ed McCarthy and he finished the ball into the roof of Dave Harrington’s net.
The second half began in physical fashion. Waweru picked up his second yellow card on 50 minutes to leave Galway down to 10 men, much to the embrace of the shed end.
From here, Cork took control as they pushed for an equaliser but failed to convert from any of their corners. The closest they came was on 80 minutes when they managed to put the ball in the Galway net but it was ruled out for offside.
Overall, it was a typical John Caulfield team performance with the Tribesmen taking the three points back west. They take on Waterford in what should be another important promotion clash.
As for Colin Healy’s side, it was a disappointing night in front of a large crowd. He will need to pick his side up for a trip to Longford next Saturday.

Dangerous cross from Cian Murphy into McGlade who snatches at it. He does thrill the shed with some step overs though.
Rash challenge by Hakkinen which doesn't go down well with the Galway players. Free kick halfway between the centre circle and the City box.
Cork appear to be putting a lot of emphasis on attacking down the left flank using McGlade's pace in particular.
