Athlone stay above Wexford despite falling to a 2 nil defeat at Lissywoolen. Darragh Levingston and Thomas Oluwa stuck either side of half time to give James Keddys men a much needed win in the race for promotion.

Wexford started better efforts from Kian Corbally and Ethan Boyle both went wide with chances, while Frantz Pierrot flashed a shot wide for the hosts minutes before the half hour mark. Aaron Dobbs and Darragh Levingston both came close but again neither breaking the deadlock, Owen Mason however produced a stunning save at the other end to keep the score 0-0.

Levingston broke the deadlock five minutes before the break, a stunning effort beating Enda Minogue to give Wexford a crucial lead to take the dressing rooms.

Into the second half and Boyle had a free kick come close to landing in the net but it was dealt with, before Dobbs found Thomas Oluwa free in the area, a low effort going through the Athlone cover on the line, doubling their advantage.

Wexford stayed on top and almost went ahead by three in the 84th minute Mark Hanratty with a close range effort wide of the goal/ The Result looked to be all but assured as we neared the end of normal time but Corbally failed to convert a chance after Dobbs made headway to setup the teenager.

Wexford now four clear of the chasing pack in the final play-off spot.
