Match Report
UCD took the victory over Cobh Ramblers at home on a scoreline of 3 goals to 2. goals from Jack Keaney, Daniel Norris and an own goal from Wilson Wewaru were enough as Cobh scored through Dale Holland and Dean Larkin before Keaney equalised from a dead ball on 24. At a wet Belfield Bowl both sides took their time feeling each other out before Holland seized the ball at the edge of the box and cut inside to drive the ball low along the wet surface and into the bottom corner of the goal despite a fully stretched Lorcan Healys. The goal gave the Students the kick the needed to raise their game. After a sustained spell of possession, they were awarded a free kick inside the D at the edge of the box for a Chris Lyons foul. UCD captain Keaney drove the ball low and into Lee Staceys net to level the sides on 24 minutes. The first half petered out without much action. A hectic second half as UCD too the lead from a corner as Wilson Waweru inadvertantly put the ball into his own net of 49 minutes. Cobh lifted their efforts when UCD countered through Norris who compounded the misery for Shane Keegans men just after the hour making it 3 – 1 to the home side. On 71 minutes Larkin pulled one back for Cobh but it wasn’t enough to take his side to extra time. Next up for the visitors is a visit to the midland to face former manager Stephen Hendersons Longford on Saturday 29th while UCD cross the Liffey to face Bohemians on Friday night. Students hold on to defeat Cobh Ramblers in FAI Cup Clash
