Match Report

Galway come from behind to beat Bohs in Dalymount

An 83rd minute Jenna Slattery penalty saw Galway WFC edge Bohemians 2-1 at Dalymount this evening.

Scoring chances were at a premium in the game's opening half but there was plenty of entertainment after the break.

Bohs netted first through Katie Lovely when the center-back lifted the ball over the visitors' defence and 'keeper just before the hour mark.

Galway fought back to strike 15 minutes later through the impressive Elle Rose O'Flaherty, who drove past Rachael Kelly in goal.

O'Flaherty would then win the penalty after Lisa Murphy took her down in the area and Slattery slotted home.

The strike sees Galway avenge their FAI Cup defeat to the Gypsies, which was won with a penalty scored in extra-time.

The two sides served up a rather timid opening half, with goal-scoring chances at a high premium.

Bohemians had the better of things for much of the half and almost had a monopoly on possession.
Though they probed around the Galway area, they found it difficult to create anything concrete in front of goal.

With injuries up front, Kira Bates-Crosbie led the line for the hosts but though she worked hard, she couldn't make the ball stick.

Abbie Brophy is usually creator-in-chief for Bohs but she struggled to get on the ball as Kate Thompson and Aoibheann Costelloe marked her tightly.

Chloe Darby had a few efforts from distance drift wide for the Gypsies though they came closest to scoring through a Galway own-goal.

Defending one of Bohs' seven corners, Bryce Reynolds sliced a clearance off her own goalpost in the 24th minute but luckily it deflected out of play.

The Westerners would save their most threatening moments 'til the last minutes of the half.

Bohs captain Kelly left her net in the nick of time to deny Taylor Rutland from getting on the end of a through ball as the visitors broke at pace with four minutes remaining.

When O'Flaherty ghosted through on goal in the final minute, Kelly came to the rescue again with another save.

The second period saw Galway look much more confident, but Bohemians would strike the opener.

Brophy blazed into the Galway area before the hour and Jaimie Erickson had to send the ball out for a corner with her excellent challenge. Though the following set piece was defended initially, it bounced to Lovely on the edge of the box and she struck goal.

The Tribeswomen came much into proceedings much more then, with O'Flaherty to the fore.

In a similar chance to the one that fell her way late in the first half, she found herself facing only Kelly but this time she hammered the ball past, despite the 'keeper's touch, and got in behind to strike into an open goal.

O'Flaherty won the penalty with another drive, and Slattery then secured the points.
