Clinical Waterford sail past Cobh
Waterford were completely dominant in dismantling Cobh Ramblers tonight with the Blues running out 5-0 winners at the RSC.
The hosts started the brighter and nearly went ahead after five minutes when Ronan Coughlan was inches away from connecting with Dean McMenamy’s cross for what would have been a certain goal.
Coughlan would get his goal three minutes later however when headed home a powerful header after a terrific cross from Killian Cantwell. The goal being the 16th of the season for league’s top scorer in what was another top notch performance in front of Fleetwood Town boss Scott Brown who was in attendance.
Cobh’s woes were compounded when they lost Dale Holland due to injury after twenty minutes with the Rams already feeling the void left by the injured Jack Doherty.
Indeed, the Rams had to wait until the 28th minute for their first chance of the game when Wilson Waweru forced a good save out of Paul Martin.
Just it looked like the visitors might establish a foothold in the game however, Waterford struck again through Shane Griffin who did brilliantly to the flick the ball past Jason Abbott before clinically dispatching to double his side’s advantage.
The second half began in the same vein as the first with Waterford looking to put the game to bed early which they managed to do through Barry Baggley. The midfielder linked up well with Coughlan before firing a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to make it 3-0 in the 51st minute.
Three became four seven minutes later with Coughlan once again involved, this time he found Roland Idowu in a pocket of space, who neatly tucked the ball home to continue the rout.
From here both sides rung the changes as the game petered out and it was substitute Wassim Aoucheria that made it 5-0 as he neatly finished into the bottom corner on the stroke of full time.
The goal capped an impressive display by the Blues to cement second position in the table

Full time at the RSC with Waterford running out easy winners in the end to cement 2nd position in the table.
Aoucharia makes it 5-0 with a neat finish into the bottom corner.
Blues double substitution as Tunmise Sobowale and Thomas Oluwa replace Connor Parsons and Giles Phillips.
Aouchria goes close from distance but his left footed shot goes just wide of the left hand post.
Sub for Waterford as Wassim Aoucheria comes on for Coughlan.
Idowu could have had another goal moments ago as he beat four players on a terrific run. Credit to Stacey though he did well to get down and deny him.
Idowu make it 4-0 with Coughlan once again involved.
Barry Baggley makes it three as he fires a low finish from the edge of the box after linking up well with Coughlan. Game over.
McMenamy has been in the thick of the action so far in the second half, linking up well with Coughlan and Odowu with Steacy having to be on his toes in the Cobh goal.
Back underway for the second half. Waterford have made a change with Dean Larkin coming on for goalscorer Shane Griffin.
Waterford lead 2-0 at the interval through goals from Ronan Coughlan and Shane Griffin in what was a comfortable half for the Blues.
One additional minute to be played at the end of the first half.
Shane Griffin doubles Waterford's lead, a very well taken goal as he had to flick the ball over Abbott before firing the ball past Stacey.
A bit more promising from Cobh in the last few minutes as they enjoy a bit more of the ball. Stating the obvious here but Jack Doherty's absence is being keenly felt.
First real chance of the game for Cobh as Wilson Waweru forces Paul Martin into a save.
Great run by Conor Parsons down the left but once again the cross just evades Coughlan.
In the meantime, Dale Holland has to go off injured for Cobh with Luke Desmond on in his place.
Lee Steacy does well to get down low and save a tricky shot from McMenamy to deny Waterford a second goal.
Cobh look a bit shell shocked it has to be said and really haven't had a chance to breath in this game so far.
Coughlan gets his goal as he heads home from Killian Cantwell's cross.
All Waterford so far, Ronan Coughlan nearly gets on the end of a Dean McMenay cross for what would have been a certain goal.
Underway.
