Clinical Waterford Dispatch Wasteful Cobh
Two first half goals in as many minutes helped Waterford to a 3-1 win away to Cobh Ramblers at St. Colman’s Park.
Cobh made the brighter start through and had a great chance in the 8th minute through Wilson Waweru who should have showed more composure when faced with an overlap on the left wing.
Their opponents were much more clinical at the other end with two goals in two minutes changing the entire complexion of the game. Firstly, Roland Idowu took advantage of poor Cobh defending slot home and give Waterford a 1-0 lead before Ronan Coughlan made it 2 just moments later to change the entire complexion of the game.
To Cobh’s credit, they responded in positive fashion and nearly got one back through Jack Doherty when his shot hit the cross bar while Justin Eguibor had a shot cleared of the line.
Despite this, the Blues could have been 3-0 up at the break with Ronan Coughlan missing a big chance by deciding to go for a lob rather than controlling the ball before taking on the shot.
The second began at a slower pace to the first with Waterford appearing content to manage the game although Barry Baggley looked dangerous for the vistiors.
Despite this, the game turned on its head on the hour mark when Jack Doherty scored his 6th goal of the season after converting from the penalty spot to bring the hosts right back into the game at 2-1.
Indeed, Cobh could have been level on the 70th minute mark when Tumise Sobowale sliced an attempted clearance which forced goalkeeper Paul Martin into making a save in order to avoid an own goal.
The Rams hopes were dashed however with ten minutes to play when Shane Griffin finished from close range to make it 3-1.
And that’s how it finished at St.Colman’s Park as Keith Long’s winning start to his reign continues with the Blues moving in to second place in the First Division table.

Shane Griffin likely seals the game for Waterford as he finishes from close range to make it 3-1.
Coughlan drills a low just to the near post but Cobh just about manage to clear it.

Close call for Cobh again as Timi Sobowale sliced his clearnace which Paul Martin had to deal with in order to avoid an OG.

Waweru goes down in the box but the referee waves play on despite his pleas. Contact was minimal it has to be said.
Barry Baggley with a great effort for Waterford which just goes wide. he cut in off his left foot before whipping a dangerous shot which goes just wide.
Little in the way of chances so far in the second half, with the pace of the game having slowed down significantly

2-0 Waterford at the break with two goals in four minutes being the difference. Cobh have had their fair share of chances also but they will need an early goal in the second half to stand a chance of getting a result here.
Big chance for Waterford at the end of half through Ronan Coughlan but his attempted lob is dealt with.
Little action in the last ten minutes with Keith Long getting a yellow off the fourth official being the most interesting event.

Justin Eguaboir has his shot cleared off the line for Cobh, the ball just hasn't gone in for them so far.

To Cobh's credit they've responded really well to the two goals, creating plenty of set piece opportunities. Their final ball is letting them down however.
Sobowale fires down the line as Griffin and McMenamy link up brilliantly to cross for Ronan Coughlan to double the lead.
Cobh hit the bar through Jack Doherty. Thats was a huge chance, thought it initally went in but somehow the ball stays out.
1-0 Waterford. A lapse in concentration at the back gifts the ball to Roland Idowu who makes no mistake in tapping home to put the visitors in front.
Good chance for Cobh, pressing Waterford high up the pitch. Wilson Waweru had an overlap on his left but made the wrong decision and the chance goes a begging.
