The first GAA team in Aughawillan was formed in the late 1890’s and first won the Championship in 1923 as Kiltyhugh. The club took on the name of Aughawillan in the 1930’s. Three years after their 1971 revival, Aughawillan won the Junior League and Championship in 1974 and went on to add the Senior Championship in ’76 & ’78.
Aughawillan GAA had many ups and downs in the 1980s and early 90s, having competed in 10 finals, winning six. The high points for the club came in 1992 and 1994 when they reached the Connacht Club Final. County titles were most recently secured in 2014, 2016 & 2018.
Paul Keaney kicked seven points as Mary's beat Aughawillan in Pairc Sean this evening to become the third team into the hat for the semi-finals of the Leitrim SFC.(more…)
