Doyle delivers for Bray in Wexford
Bray took all three points at Ferrycarrig Park after a goal in the 44th minute from Joe Doyle helped them to victory over Wexford FC in the First Division.
The ball was fed into the striker who took a great touch and did well to finish into the corner of the net while being surrounded by two Wexford defenders.
The Wexford defence did well to soak up the first half pressure from the away side but unfortunately for new manager Ian Ryan they were eventually broken down. They put in an admirable performance in the second half but failed to score and suffered a 1-0 defeat.
The first half saw Bray come out of the traps at a frantic pace and playing at a very high tempo. However, they failed to break down the home side’s stubborn five-man defence and were limited to shots from outside the area which failed to trouble Wexford ‘keeper, Jimmy Corcoran.
Gary Cronin’s half time notes were almost certainly torn up, with his side taking the lead just before the conclusion of the first half. He must have been happy with his side’s dominance but would have expected more of a cutting edge in their attack.
Ian Ryan took charge of Wexford for the first time, and his team talk at half time was no doubt nothing short of motivational. His side came out playing much better in the second half and seemed to be more confident on the ball.
The Slaneysiders did well to hold Bray to only one goal, after they put three past a good Cabinteely side last week. However, they will be disappointed that they could not create more chances for themselves.
A dangerous free kick caused the Wanderers defence some trouble as they struggled to clear it away. A chance also fell to substitute Evan Farrell who saw his headed effort cleared off the line.
A disappointing result for Wexford who would have felt that they could at least have got a point. They are yet to pick up any points so far this season, but if they keep performing that well, it is only a matter of time before they do.
Bray have picked their fourth win in a row and Gary Cronin will be delighted with his side’s recent form.
