LOI FD Preview: Treaty United v Galway United

With four wins from their last five-outings, Treaty United versus Galway United represents the meeting of two of the First Division’s most in-form outfits. Kick off at Markets Field is 7.45pm.

Treaty set a club record, when completing four on the trot, thanks to a 3-0 win away to Longford Town at Bishopsgate. An Enda Curran double and a Stephen Christopher effort helped Tommy Barrett’s side move to just outside the play-off places. Indeed, if Treaty collect another three points, they could move up to third in the second-tier.

Barrett will know the challenge that awaits, as he has yet to oversee a Treaty triumph over Galway United, in their eight head-to-head clashes to date. Their sole meeting this season, which came in round two, was decided by a sole Rob Slevin strike. Treaty will be without Ben O’Riordan (suspended), while there are injury concerns for Mark Walsh, Anto O’Donnell and Success Edogun.

Marksman Curran, as well as Marc Ludden, will face his former club, hoping to score in a third consecutive league game, something he didn’t manage last season, despite a superb season. Ludden has returned in recent weeks to boost the side, which he now captains.

A run of four home games from their next five outings will fill Treaty with hope of clinging onto the top five places, where they’ve placed in each of their two seasons to date.

For Galway, manager John Caulfield will have been delighted by his sides response to their only blip to date. Following their maiden loss to Longford Town (1-0) on May 1st, they’ve defeated both Waterford and Wexford to put themselves 10 points clear after fourteen outings.

The Connacht side are without Stephen Walsh and Rob Slevin who are suspended. They will have Killian Brouder and Ed McCarthy, two Limerick natives in their ranks.

Galway suffered a 3-0 loss to Waterford at the Limerick venue in last seasons play-offs, a truly forgettable night for Caulfield and co, who will surely only have eyes for the title this time around.
