Slevin Secure Successive Win For Galway In First Division
It's back to back wins for Galway as they ran out 1-0 winners against a stubborn Treaty side in Eamonn Deacy Park this evening.
It was a home debut goal for Rob Slevin as his great header opened the scoring after 37 minutes after a great corner from Ronan manning found him in the area.
Treaty fought to earn a point but just lacked that attacking edge, The tribesmen can be happy with their first home performance topped off with a clean sheet.
The opening exchanges of this match were cagy as you'd expect this early in the campaign with new players and new ideas it took a while for this match to really get going.
Treaty United the visitors had the first effort on goal after 13 minutes a lovely touch at the edge of the box by William Armshaw saw him find a yard of space just inside the United penalty box but unfortunately for Treaty he fired just over the bar.
This attempt sprung the home side into life and in particular Ronan Manning with two attempts in three minutes the latter just missing the post Galway were on the front foot.
Galway United maintained this pressure and nearly found the opener after 18 minutes as a dangerous free kick was floated in and the Treaty defence just cleared it off the line goalless after 18 minutes.
Galway maintained their attacking play, limiting Treaty to counter attacks while they seemed to lack a real attacking cutting edge.
The Tribesmen found the breakthrough after 37 minutes, defender Rob Slevin powerful header beating the Treaty keeper Conor Winn after a fine corner by Ronan Manning saw the defender get his first goal for his new side.
Treaty reacted well to going behind but went in at the break trailing 1-0.
Galway started the second much how the ended the first half and had the better of proceeding up until the 55th minute mark.
Treaty threatened with set pieces and had an effort saved on the line by Galway keeper Brendan Clarke.
Rob Slevin was booked for a heavy challenge in the 55th minute and led to two further bookings after an on field scuffle David Hurley and Treaty’s Lee Devitt entering the refs book.
Treaty continued to cause issues for Galway from set pieces with the Maroon men surviving a decent effort after 74 minutes from Andy Spain but none able to find the back of the net.
Galway showed real experience and maturity late on seeing out the match without providing the opposition with any chances of a late equaliser. Manager John Caulfield can be proud of such a mature display this early in the campaign as his side ran out with a 1-0 victory.
It's back to back 1-0 defeats for the limerick side as they'll hope for improvements in the coming weeks
