It falls to Desmond just outside the area and his shot is just wide. Clearly a danger from distance.

Goal! It's an equaliser and it's Pierrot! Campion Hinds fires a shot in from the second ball and it comes to Pierrot's feet and he turns and fires in! Against the run of play but Athlone won't care.

Chance! Pierrot gets his first sniff at goal after he turns and fires a shot at the near post, but Steacy tips it over! Great save.

Dale Holland plants him and receives a yellow. Could be the start of an ongoing battle.

Dolia kicks out and avoids a yellow. Lucky on this occasion.

Goal for Cobh! Abbott sends it out left, it's knocked in to Waweru, he lays it off for Desmond who sets himself and finds the top corner! Brilliant strike and it's a deserved lead.

Dolia is cog in the Athlone machine, essentially the link up between defence and attack for the visitors. Looks up to the task but Cobh have copped this and he's being surrounded whenever he's on the ball.

Furthermore, the Westmeath Independent reported Wednesday that Gordon Brett has stepped down from the Athlone job. The news has yet to be confirmed by the club and there's zero indication as to who will be in the dugout for them tonight.

Tonight could have major implications for playoff places down the road. Cobh are in third, two points ahead of Athlone in fifth. A loss for Cobh could see numerous teams leapfrog them if results don't go their way elsewhere tonight whilst Athlone could drop out of playoff places altogether.

Cobh come into this one fresh off a 5-0 battering against Waterford whilst Athlone have back-to-back losses to their name. Both sides need a bounce back.
